Off to look at a bike tomorrow.

all seems to be in order, mileage, tax mot scuff on the left, sounds ok.

No V5 tho Confused the boy said he only has the extra wee green bit as he has not received the full V5 back from the DVLA.

Can anyone raise a few points about this,

Consequences, what i should look out for, etc

Any general information would be excellent.

Rich

So he's only just bought it (DVLA usually get your V5 back to you within about 3 weeks) and he's selling it already?

I'd go over it with a fine toothed comb.

Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole until he has the full document.

Why is he selling so quick if he's just bought it? Confused

Wait until he receives the V5 back before buying it.

According to the DVLA the little green slip is only valid for six weeks. If he hasn't got the v5 back yet, then I'd want to know why.

Sounds a bit sus to me. Confused

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Two new tyres wouldn't help you if the police took the bike off you because it was stolen though.

I'm naturally cynical, but rather that than naive. If you like the bike I'd agree a price, and agree to pay once he has the V5 in his possession. I wouldn't even be happy about leaving a deposit to be honest.

its probably legit, and he never got round to sending off the little green bit after he bought it, but its probably safer to ask him to get the log book before you buy

I think there are more lazy people than there are dishonest people

The previous owner sends that bit off, not the new owner. Otherwise you wouldn't need to bother at all, and could just go through speed cameras at 90mph all day!

The problem is, without the V5, you can't get it re-registered to you. If it looks good, I'd tell him you'll buy it, but only when the V5 comes through.

The other option is that he never registered the bike in his name straight away, only when it came to retaxing it. I generally do this myself, to kill two birds with one stone.

How much tax is on it?
