well i did it, blagged me a Ducati 749s not easy when you look 14 and have a restricted license but anyway onto the bike.

When you first sit on it the first thing you notice is how thin the tank is, and how rock solid the seat is, not a good start.
Fire up the engine and it springs to life ducati power, pop in in first and off you pop.
this is where all the hardness goes away and it just handles like a dream, even at very low speeds is stable, it dosent like heavy traffic much but when you get into the twisties its what a ducati was made for.
Brakes are like none other, i just cant get over how well it handles, its got enough power too, sure only about 100bhp but thats more than enough.

but for me what done it the most was the tart factor, its like driving a big yellow ferrari down the street, you cant miss it everyone looks i loved it.

i just gotta save up for one now Very Happy

Dave, if you chop the GSXR in for a Duke I'll never speak to you again! Evil or Very Mad

I rode a 748 a while ago and didn't like it. Very narrow, that backwards twin power delivery... Twins are a very personal thing though I think. I had a ZX6R at the time and it didn't feel as quick. Did the newer one really feel as quick as the Gixxer?

it wasnt as outright quick, but it didnt feel that much slower.
its quite a revvy twin too.
not ridden a 748 but this one was awsome.
the shape is a bit marmite, for which i like.

rang up the shop, my only strong blagging point is the fact i have a gsxr750 so i started by i wanna part ex this bike for that ducati.
next day i go into the shop, did not mention the ducati just said i wanna px my bike.
so they give a good going over and make me a shite offer of £3000, i agree anyway and do some fake haggling then explain why i have so much money. (got an insurance payout for an accident at work) Wink.
so anyway i started to talk about the ducati more and that ive never ridden one, slowly moving onto the subject of test riding it, he seemed reluctant and wanted a deposit on it first, bollocks i thought mission failed so as im about to leave lid on bike started, he said wanna see if we can start it now ?.
But it didnt start battery was flat, so i went home only to find a message saying its been started ang go straight to the serive depo round the corner.
i rang up nick fazed and told him the good news and he should come out for a blat.
got there and bike was ready for me, shiny, sleek the bloke then asks for my license, which if you dont already know its a 33bhp one still so i hand it over, he doesnt check the underside, so i quickly scuttle over to the bike and ride off.
Mission complete, it was loyal but boy what a bike, i cant wait much longer so im selling my gixxer asap Smile
£3300 ONO

I've said in the past regarding special models like this (and RSV factory etc) - spend the same extra money on a better suspenion on a standard jap bike and you'll probably end up with an even better handling bike. Think there's a difference of about £2k rrp? That would get Ohlins shock AND forks.

Of course some of it may be down to a bit easier to use power delivery. But then I prefer my bikes to be a bit more challenging to ride fast as I find it's also more rewarding when you get it right Smile.

the S model has slightly better suspention not your ohlins but the rear shock is a SHOWA compared to a Sachs and the front forks are stiffened and coated in something to make the work better.

the S is about £200-£300 more than the standard = more tart value

you might be confusing the R version which is quite right a few grand more, Full ohlins slipper clutch tuned engine etc.

A grand more on the RRP, but then the normal model is already a fair few pennies more than a rival jap bike.
R model is over £5k more.

Was suggesting getting ohlins for the bike you already have if you want better handling.

Fair enough if you want less power / tart value.

Hi

If you want an equivalent to a 750 then go for the 1000cc twins (or a 600cc V8, or 500cc V16 Wink ).

Capacity alone is a pretty piss poor method of determining performance.

All the best

Keith
