Anyone own one? or owned one?

I'm thinking of getting one, fairly soon. They've got style, just after opinions really, I currently drive a 205 diesel ( with flames Laughing ) but i'm bored of it.

Karma Thumbs Up

I had a 1964 1200cc bug with a BIG white steering wheel..

I sold it to my brother who chopped it to make a trike.............until he realised what a C*NT he'd look riding a Bug trike.

They are an aquired taste, you'll love it or loath it.

My mate has a 1600 VW Bug. one of the REALLY early modles.
I had a 1300 mini.

The mini still kicked the shit outa the bug in all aspects of speed etc. but the bug was HUGE and (imo) had superior charactor over my mini. Although some people preferd the mini.

With them being flat 4 engines, and air cooled, theres not alot can go wrong with them.

And as the saying goes in Herbie.

"look after it, and it'l live forever!".

And its true, mates beetle is what? probably 35 years old? ok, the engines on its last legs, and the startermotor only works when it wants to. But its STILL going, and still the origional running gear.

The few downsides are,
They are very loud, motorway driving sucks. (Just like my mini).
They top out at about 80. (down hill)
They are leaded, so addative is needed.
They absoloutly KANE petrol!

Dont do it!!

I went through this phase too, bloody expensive phase for a bit of fun and a lot of expense, admittedly it looked cool in electric blue but only in the summer!

In the winter they are living hell, heating sucks, although they do start, but no comfort whatsoever!!
