Use trillian (trillian) It's free and it's had the same smileys since 2002, no winks and people can't nudge you. It's great Smile. And i don't find it crashes my pc when i open outlook and click send/recieve, although that only happens on my home pc, not my work so it's probably only when outlook and msn are running specific software versions.

Yahoo is the work of a sinner.

The biggest problem is SOO many people don't realise what a big task it is to write and maintain a full IM network from scratch... Google talk will have a fair load of open source code in it i'm fairly sure, Microsoft was the first Decent IM client/server setup and that is why so many people went into it... noone, not even google can manage to get everyone to change IM client completely just because the only way it would work is if everyones friends moved aswell and non-computer literate people hate change computer-wise.

So then Zaknafien, what client is/has been better then msn?

ICQ? - blows pikahu nads
AIM? - is shite
Yahoo? - I hate tool bars at the best of the time, their popup blocker is a pain in the f'ing arse... can't be arsed to go on any further...

Google Talk? never used, don't plan to, it will never get to the point where everyone switches over and i can't be arsed to sign into two different IM clients, maybe if trillian includes google talk client i might consider it but prob not.
