Was reading the June 2006 issue of Ride and came across the term 'rear-wheel steer' (p8).

Can anyone describe to me what it is?

Its when the rear breaks away and the bike points tighter into the corner. Like so. (not that I've seen the new issue of Ride)

Indeed. Sliding the back wheel out under controlled power, not something to try on your own bike or the road, unless you are Mick Doohan.

It's something that will make most riders crap themselves, because unless you're very good at controlling at it can end in a highside.

I've only ever met one person that could rear wheel steer on the road and it was an amazing sight!!

He'd spent years grass track racing and it was just natural for him to ride like that on the road.

Oh and he was riding a GSXR1100N !!

It's alot easier to slider the back going into a corner than it is coming out. And fun!

I like sliding the back in the wet accelerating through gentle low speed corners, and thats not difficult as your almost upright anyway. Just flick the clutch quickly while accelerating (not at full throttle) and slightly leaned over in the wet, and you'll spin the rear. Thumbs Up

Yeah, backing it in is fantastic fun!

I have the available power to spin the rear at will, just don't have the balls to do it Smile

Just give it a go in a straight line, you dont need hand fulls of throttle, thats why I say flick the clutch as your accelerating (around the mid rev range), you wont get a violent uncontrolable slide, and it gives you an idea of what to expect.

I'd be supprised if you could slide on power alone (unless it was wet).

Edit: Ok, just seen you have a ZX10. Thumbs Up Laughing

Mr. Green

Mind you, now that i've got rid of the sh*t stock tyres all she wants to is wheelie when in a straight line, got too much grip now!

But it would spin up real easy on coldish tyres
