after all this time i think im finally going to get an rs125 next month just a few questions as i know nothing about bikes. i know with a 50 cc license when your 16 you only have to do a cbt and can carry l plates what is it when your 17 with a 125 do you have to take a proper test or what ?? also can you take people on the back on a rs125, or can you even when you are 17 do you have to pass a further test or ahything. and last question is from any ones previous experience how much is insurance on an rs125 for a 17 year old on your own name ?? thanks alot !!

I also plan on getting an RS125... I believe the law is that when you are 17 you can ride a 125CC restricted to 15BHP on a CBT. You cannot carry a pillion.

You can take your full test at 17 which will allow you to ride any bike restricted to 33BHP (Derestricted RS125 will be about 27) and carry a pillion..

After your test you need to ride for two years before you can ride any kind of bigger bike, unless of course you have it restricted to 33BHP.

Regarding insurance... I was quoted £580 TPFT for a brand new model, and i'm 17.

At 17 on a CBT your allowed up to 14.6bhp, must display L plates front and back and your not allowed to carry pillion passengers. If your considering biking for a while then I'd suggest doing an A2 restricted test when you turn 17. You'll be allowed any bike as long as it's restricted to 33bhp, you can carry pillion passengers and you'll be able to use motorways. Plus after the 2 year restriction is up your then free to go and ride whatever capacity bike you want.

Thumbs Up

also can you get 2 people on an rs125, and if the rs125 after ive passed me full test will need derestriciting will it reach over 85mph thanks !

Alright mate, i'm looking round for RS125's as well (also 17)

A derestricted RS125 will easily hit 85 - they are known to hit 120.

Be aware though RS's require a lot of maintainence!

Rolling Eyes 120, no chance.

The RS will top at 100 mate, its only a light 125cc! Don't believe what other hyped up 17 year olds tell you to try and impress you!

Got mine for sale if your after one...
