Stripping a bike for parts...

[Method]

Basically im going to be stripping down my GS in the near future, hopefully! *Touch wood* and im just curious as to what preperations i need to make for flogging it off to different people.

I know this is all second nature to most of you, but ive never done it before.

As i understand it, all i need to do is declare it off-road (SORN) with a little bit of paper from the post office, and thats it?

Anyone care to elaberate

You really need to state that you have scrapped the bike yourself - there was a section on the old v5 to do this, I haven't had a look for it on the new one.

Unless you are wanting to sell the frame as a going concern, in which case then SORN it if it does not have a tax disk, and make sure the ownership of the frame is transfered over to the new owner in exactly the same way as if you sold them the complete bike - you don't want to be getting random speeding tickets for the next 10 years

I thought these days to declare it as scrapped completely you had to provide the name and contact details of the registered breaker that dismantled it? Or is that just cars

Possibly - you used to have the option of scrapping it yourself or specifying the name of some fly-by-night bandit with a leaky old flatbed transit (sorry, registered member of the motor dismantling trade) who would subsequently sell your ex pride and joy on to some bloke in the pub unless you put a chisel through something important first. Then the rozzers turn up at your house asking why your car is parked half way through the front door of a shop. And breathe.

The nanny state may well have removed your God-given right to smash up your own motor into ickle bits since the new registration rules, though.

Well i was planning on selling the frame as a seperate item yes... so i suppose i would just need to sorn it? And do the new V5 for the new owner? But what about the reg plate and that? Should that go with the frame?
