Hey guys this is my first post but need to ask you experts a question.

Due to some idiocy on my part the oil cap on my engine was not tightened properly. As a result when I went riding the oil obviously went everywhere but took me a while to notice (Actually was when i tried to press the rear brake but my foot kept sliding off it). As soon as I noticed I parked it and sure enough all the engine oil had gone. Went to the nearest petrol station and they didn't have any 4 stroke motorbike engine oil so I bought this Texaco 15W-50 engine oil ( should be for cars ). Put the oil in and i got home ( 5 miles ) without any dramas.

The question is, is that oil kosha for my bike? My bike is a chinese import: Feiying FY125-3A and have been told that it's pretty much like a Honda CG125 (looks cooler though). If it's ok to leave the oil in there I will... otherwise will I have to drain the whole thing and replace with 10W-40 semi-synthetic.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Chances are it will be fine. Some newer higher spec car oils can cause clutch slip, but many are fine (and I haven't had a problem using car oils in far more powerful engines).

All the best

Keith

Hi guyverl,

Welcome to the forum! I'm not an expert but...

I have used 15w50 for a thousand miles between oil changes, on my CG, and suffered no ill effects whatsoever.

I would be surprised if you couldnt use chip fat in a CG as they are amazingly robust. If your copy engine parts are going to fail, they will fail with any oil.

You'll be fine mate Thumbs Up

Thanks for your quick replies guys. Was out on the bike again today and no problems again. Though having said that it does seem to be really hard to engage neutral when the engine is running! Not sure if it really affects but I was only worried it was going to blow up on me!

Hopefully it will be a non-issue at any rate... hoping to do my DAS soon and with it got my eye on a VFR400 Smile Thanks again for the warm welcome

Can't use high performance car ol in them, clutch slipps like a bastard Razz

In the CG however provided there is suffucient quantity of any oil in there it will be fine (they tend to burn it a bit).

Oil level and change frequency will probably matter for far more than the grade of oil on a 125.

Sometimes. Used fully synthetic car oil in the Bandit 1200 engine before without any clutch issues.

All the best

I only use the cheapest car oil I can find, currently 20w50. Mainly due to the fact my bike burns so much oil anyway I dont see the point in burning good oil Cool Laughing

£3 a gallon 15W50 (initially just a bottle I discovered at the bottom of an old pile of junk in the garage) always worked fine for mine, though 10W40 is what is usually recommended. The cheapest stuff you can find will more than likely work just fine, it isn't as if the engine is particularly highly stressed for a 125.

the neutral thing is the same on all the chinese bikes, and its often you find its hard to come from say fourth gear to second due to the shitty box they put in them, mines hard to come back up the gearbox lol suggestions? may not be worth a new post might just be ware and whatnot!

hmm, you're right. The gearbox in this 125 really isn't the best thing in the world but having got used to it it's not so bad. At first it seemed to get stuck in 4th and then not go down the gears more often but that seems to have resolved itself! sometimes I do find if the gears are stuck and won't downshift (upshift is never a problem) I rev the engine and/or push the bike forward manually a little. This seems to aid in the alignment or whatever and it usually downshifts after that...

I think the trick is running it in every gear and not trying to multi-shift from 4th to 2nd etc
