if you had the choice...gn125 or dt125

basically my father wants to get back into biking and since his 750 bonne is still of the road he has said we could go half on a bike, I could then use it till I pass my test and get a bigger bike and he would give me my half back... Now heres the situation...

There are 2 bikes in a local bike shop. Both £900. The GN has 20k on the clock (which for sum reason seems to be a magic number to me that I dont like. Why do people sell there bikes on the 20k mark?) Its a 4 stroke and reasonable condition apart from corroded fork legs. The DT has done 11k but is a 2 stroke and its one of the older ones with the drum front brakes

Now my dad reckons the GN would be the better bike BUT I cannot see the logic in buying a bike thats done twice the milage for the same money AND id still use the DT once I get my bigger bike. The GN wouldnt get ridden that much I dont think once it goes to my my dad and I really dont like the classic style bikes either....

Any thoughs would be appriecated. Feels like im in a catch 22. He doesnt want to ride a scrambler I dont think (to high up position) and I dont like classic style. OK i admit im only really going to use either bike for communting but im trying to think long-term.. I want to get the GN so my dad can enjoy it once in a while but it would only be that aswell and Id see it as a waste.

Why not look privately, rather than limiting yourself to a (relatively) expensive local shop?

There are better deals out there mate. I recently sold my Honda CLR125 which was a 1999 reg and had only 8k on the clock for £750
