By the way, are you sure that the linkage is meant to be able to move? I can't quite picture how the suspension setup is going to work in my head, but looking at the picture of the swinging arm the linkage is bolted on in a way that it cannot move Thinking

The bolt itself is stepped quite irregularly, and has rubber 'O' rings on it.

And yes it should be able to move, you have to have it in your hands to really understand it. I mean, as the swingarm moves up and down the shock needs to change it's angle. This bit moves to allow the shock to move in that way.

A new swingarm may well be a good bet if it can be picked up cheaply.

Nice job but if I may make a suggestion?

The honing on the bores could do with re-doing, you need a cross hatch etc on it rather than horizontal lines, move quicker up and down the bore with the honing tool, will work a lot better.

Its worth buying quality tools also, saves the hassle you have had with that allen bolt!

Good luck!

He didn't do the honing, and it is crosshatched. And in such a fucked bike it's not the biggest issue in the world!

The tools weren't actually bad in this case, Good quality allen key socket thing, and an impact driver, it just slowly rounded the bolt, even after a good roasting.

I've stripped a couple of bikes in my time right down to just a frame, and I've had a few seized bolts, but this is just something else.

I think you missed an opportunity to use a copy of the sun or something similar as your newspaper backing.

A nipple visible through each cylinder would be genius.

Work update: Wired up the headlight and all the bar controls, painted the panels and mudguard.

Panels:
https://www.mjleonard.me.uk/pictures/cbstrip/panels.jpg

Mudguard:
https://www.mjleonard.me.uk/pictures/cbstrip/mudguard.jpg

I really couldnt be arsed to sand them down to make them perfect as, lets face it, its never going to be pretty. So I just keyed all the surfaces with a brillo pad and painted over. The top panel came out nicely as that had virtually no damage in the first place Smile
