Just wondering what you consider the proper helmet fir with regards to your chin/mouth and the chin bar.
In the Roof Diversion I can 'kiss' the inside of the chin bar. This makes me think that in an accident I would probably lose some teeth and possibly break my jaw if I took a direct hit on the chin bar. Moreover, when I am at speed, the wind resistance puches the helmet back a bit so that I can feel my nose touching the raised bit of the Diversion chin bar, but I think that is more because the helmet has been in constant use for 4 years so the foam is compressed a bit.
I tried on a Caberg helmet yesterday and found that the chin bar was very close to my mouth again.
How close is your chin/lips to the chin bar? Can you touch it if you purse you lips?
Looking to get a new helmet soon. As I mentioned in the other thread I'm looking at Cabergs, just because of the internal visor. I'd like to try others though, but I haven't found bike shops in Oxford with much of a choice yet. ____________________ About me|@Major_Grooves|My company|Digg|Flickr |

I can touch the inside of my Shoei Raid with my lips.
I also ride with my mouth slightly open as my helmet tends to 'rise up' when I am going along at (around) 70mph.
I'm a bit concerned at this, maybe I'll tighten my chinstrap in a minute!

Just bought a KBC Force RR helmet as the fit was the best in the shop. I did however have to take out the "nose guard" (that deflects your breath down from the visor) as it was squashing my nose. Bar that, the fit is fine, well apart from my headphones coming out of my ears all the time now..

I had a caberg, but decided that it just didnt have enough padding it in, and the fact that if I punched the crash helmet with my head in it, the chin bar hit my chin....
I got an Arai GP5K now , Much more padding, A D lock harness which I find better as you HAVE to adjust it to fit you tightly every time you ride, and it just looks better
My chin dont hit the front of that unless I pull down really hard, I feel much more confident about that helmet than my other one, and after reading about that £87 helmet just falling apart in a 30 mph crash in the MCN paper ( yes I know they bullshit alot but still ) it kinda made my mind up for me. |

It's probably just your choice of style. I'd guess it's the brutus that you tried on (same style as roof lids, and now known as the 503(i think)). These halmets usually don't have forward-projecting chin bars. The caberg V2 protrudes quite a way. My nitro does, too.
Personally, i wouldn't trust a helmet where my face touched it if someone punched the chin guard. Maybe one of the arai supermoto helmets may be a little better?
Last thoughts are that it could be the helmet you're trying is too big, or you're not yanking the strap tight enough. Probably unlikely, but could be possible.

I quite liked the ones the guys used in the Long Way Round. I might take a trip to my local BMW bike shop. Would look a bit of a tit with a BMW helmet riding an old CB500 though. ____________________ About me|@Major_Grooves|My company|Digg|Flickr |

There was a thread a long time ago about roof diversion helmets breaking peoples noses in some crashes. A few people posted all with similar experiences. ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |

Well I took the motorway from Oxford to Watford today to go to J&S.
I tried on a few helmets, none of which really fitted my head shape. I was quite keen for the Caberg as half the reason I am changing helmet is that I am fed up of being blinded by the sun.
Turns out that I am an XXL in Caberg!
I wasn't going to be able to try any Arai or Shoei apparently because they had lost the key but after a while, the guy with the key came back I tried an Arai and as soon as I put it on it was like an epiphany. It fitted so well! I really wanted the Caberg just for the visor (and it was half the price the Arai) but the fit was so good with the Arai there was really no choice.
So for £220 I present to you my Arai Condor. I am quite pleased with the design too.
https://www.majorgrooves.co.uk/uploaded_images/arai_condor-795812.JPG
When I was riding down the motorway, my Roof was pressed right back into my face and really uncomfortable. I guess that is the result of foam compression after nearly 4 years daily use.
The Arai on the other hand is a dream - it doesn't move at all. There is hardly any wind inside the helmet, wheras with the Roof I would always have a stream of air into my eyes. I am sure I have more peripheral vision now and without the nose bit on the Roof it is easier to see the dials.
It was still quite noisy though so I will be sticking to earplugs. Only downside is that I have to work out how to get my starcom earphones into the helmet and it doesn't look like the liner is that adaptable.
On the way home I set the GPS to take me back avoiding all motorways and took the route from Aylesbury to Oxford which was quite nice. Ironically, considering I had rejected the Caberg, I rode home with the sun in my eyes most of the way. My head/neck did feel like it had a lot of wind pressure on it. I'm not sure if it was to do with the helmet or just that with the helmet being positioned so much better I notice other things now. One's thing's certain - the next bike will have fairings!
The Arai has this inner visor thing for anti-fog but I will have to look into getting a photo-reactive one instead.
I also bought new gloves, but that's not so interesting. They are, however, yellow, which is nice. ____________________ About me|@Major_Grooves|My company|Digg|Flickr |

My helmet is a streetfighter interger, and is bloody good for £100 really comfy, quiet and good looking, only thing with mine as my visors gone limp and blows down at higher speeds, but getting a blacked out one to sort that.
can get it from:
https://www.getgeared.co.uk/acatalog/Streetfighter_Integral_Motorcycle_Helmet.html
Looks best in matt black, altho there is some other designs wich have just come out, all bar the matt black are a for me tho.
Picture does NOT do it justice.

Course it is, but a ZX10 is capable of 104 in first gear or something ridiculous...so...GO FASTER! ____________________ wizzzard wrote: Imagine God just stopping by, tidying your front room up and then quietly letting himself out again. Statisticly more likely to happen than Korn being on here. |
