Jon White takes 4 trophies at Mallory Park

Twickenham racer Jon White experienced highs and lows at BMCRC Clubman Mini-Twin event at Mallory Park in Leicestershire during the Bank Holiday weekend.

Jon was confident that he could regain his position at the top of the Rookie championship, even though it was a circuit he had no experience of.

White was right to be confident and after a fantastic start from 11th place, he rode his West London Suzuki Sv650 brilliantly, and fought his way to a 3rd place finish, gaining two trophies as he was also the highest place rookie.

Race two now meant he had a front row start, which considering this was only his 6th race ever, had caught the attention of several people including the commentators. Once again he made the most of his start and for several laps was winning the race outright, eventually yielding to two faster riders, he kept on pushing hard and took yet another 3rd place.

Whilst collecting his four trophies from two races on Sunday evening, the commentator stated it was “One of many brilliant races from Jon White”

Bank holiday Monday was the second days racing and he faced another two races. Jon was again confident and very excited about another front row start.

Overnight the rain had come down hard and was very intermittent during the morning.

Race 3 was declared wet, and was something Jon had never experienced. He pushed hard and for a few laps was again in the lead. Unfortunately whilst pushing the limits on his wet tyres he lost grip on a new section of the circuit and slid out of the race.

“Riding in the wet was a very new experience for me, and whilst leading the race, I just pushed it too hard into the new chicane”

As the 4th and final race approached the sun was now shining, but with burst of heavy rain. This meant a tough decision, go out on dry tyres and risk having no grip, and many had crashed during the day doing just that. Or race on wet tyres which would be no use if the circuit dried out.

The decision was split across the field of racers, and Jon made a last minute call to go on wets.

It was going to be tough starting from the back of the grid after the crash and unfortunately the tyre choice turned out to be the wrong one as the sun shone after lap 1. the wet tyres provided little grip on a dry circuit and Jon struggled hard to carve through the field to regain some points. The race was red flagged after a few laps because of an incident and the positions stood, Jon came in a disappointing 22nd.

The next outing will be further away, in four weeks time, at the Croix En Ternois circuit in Northern France. Another unknown circuit to most of the rookies, Jon included.

“I’m going to be pushing hard to get back to the front of the grid, and have high hopes for a podium finish,” said Jon “I’m doing well in the Rookie Championship and I hope to secure the lead at Croix” he added.

Cheers Swaffs!! Excellent work as usual.

Not a bad weekend just a shame about the 'off' but that's racing for you as they say. Don't even want to talk about my tyre decision in the last race lol

Cheers to Korn and Ste and all the others for the help yet again.
