I plan to do my test in August when I have some time off work. I have been looking at bikes. My initial plan was to get the ER6n but after looking at insurance £1000 FC for female 25 1 year NCB living in an ok area. I decided something with a lower group was in order and so I have settled on the CBF500 ABS. This is insurance group 6 and prices for FC are coming out at around £570. This bike is 58bhp 500CC compared to the 600cc 65bhp of the ER6.

Anyone ridden the CBF its a really nice bike very comfy to sit on and I would be looking to buy it shortly after August either selling my YBR privately or trading it in. I imagine the YBR wont have more than 1500 miles on it and its 55 plate.

I am just looking forward to a bigger bike, i love riding so much.

£1000 to insure an ER6n! Are you sure there isn't a better quote out there for you?

Any particular reason you're buying new?

Go for a 2nd hand SV650, go third party fire and theft instead of fully comp... save a fortune.

Fully comp is going to cost you a lot when you're a new rider as you're fairly likely to drop it at some point. I wouldn't bother, I'd buy an older bike and just replace the broken bits myself if I binned it.

I completely agree with Bendy, i've only had full comp insurance for the last 3 or 4 years and so spent 10 years on TPFT, i just couldn't justify the expense.

Doubt you'll get that much money for the YBR.

I wouldn't make the same mistake twice.

The only real advantage the new CB offers over a ten year old one is the ABS. ABS isn't really a big use on bikes; it'd be much better to learn to ride your bike better so that you don't get to a situation where it would kick in, anyway!

Newer bikes cost more to insure, so personally, I'd go for something like a 99 SV650 and get TPO or TPFT insurance.
(I do infact own a 99 SV with TPO insurance! )
