I've been doing some browsing around the web for some income protection cover lately, (the joys of consolidating without fizzing loan payment protections ripping you off). But nearly all I've seen so far have a small loop hole of 'We will not pay if you can't work because you rode a death trap machine' Confused.

So I was wondering if anyone here knows of decent insurance companies that would provide cover that is biker friendly??

I'm with Friends Provident who only exclude war and HIV/AIDS (unless I get it at work). They also insure against me not being able to do my job (not against me not being able to work at all). It seemed a reasonable price:

£200 per week for £15.80 (deferred 26 weeks)

and an additional:

£373 per week for £25.87 (deferred 52 weeks)

when I took it out.

The cover and payment have increased a little since then (2002) as I had an automatic 5% per year increase however I will probably have to look at getting it increased as the maximum you can cover is 65% of your salary so I am a little underinsured.

Likewise, and whilst they aren't the cheapest they do cover you riding motorcycles, but not if you participate in motorsport.

I'm with bright grey for life insurance and crtical illness cover (for declared profession). They weren't bothered about motorcycling, but there were some delays when I mentioned paragliding. https://www.brightgrey.com/protection_plan/index.html
It is important to get critical ilness cover for a declared profession, otherwise they will tell you work as a checkout person, if you get some sort of disability that will prevent you from doing your current job instead of paying out.

Critical illness is different - pays out a lump sum if you get a specific illness. Declared profession isn't really important on that (only reason to have it is for the insurance on the monthly premium itself). Income protection (aka permanent health insurance) is where it may be important to get cover for a particular profession. I certainly wanted it - if I lost a couple of fingers I could find myself out of work.

CICA - Combined Insurance Company of America. They have many local rep's.

020 8546 7733

www.combinedeurope.com

These guys cover most of us in the PRace Paddock. We get a payout no matter what has happened, or where, as long as we are in the EU, america, Australia or New Zealand.

£200 per day payout (or less if you want less) when in hospital
£100 per day payout for twice the number of days you were in hospital (up to 3 months)
Immediate payout and no questions asked when claim made.
Every accident covered unless self inflicted.
As mentioned above, even motorsport is covered! Pub fights as well! lol
Access to the best doctors in the world for a second opinion, free of charge.
Premiums will NEVER go up, even if claims are made.
No limit to amount of claims.
Fixed prices or £1000 for broken bones (£200 for finger or toe brakages)
£20,000 to next of kin should the worse happen
Big payouts if you become paralised

This is just the accident cover, I just took out Sickness protection too, coveres against any hospitalisation and home stay, same rates as above, but won't cover for know illness already suffered or stress related illness.

Priced around £350 per year, so that's roughly £30 per month!!!

Good company! I've heard many people talk about them, not one bad comment!

They also cover famous racers, John McGuiness was one name that particularly stuck in my head!

all policies tailored to your needs. The amounts show above are for their biggest payout packages, smaller payout options cost less!

And no, I'm not at all connected or earning money off this, but I wish I were. lol

There is zero hidden clauses or small print, a rep comes to your house and goes through everything with you, answers all your questions and leaves you satisfied and relaxed! (ooh er missus! lol) You really can't go wrong with these guys!
