For me the SV has the better agility, while the bandit has the better engine - though neither are really impressive in either aspect.

As neither offer much of a five year old bike for the same price, I wouldn't buy used for either.

try them out for the kind of riding you would do, and see which you prefer

as long as you have a full license, someone will let you test ride

I think G was meaning that its better to buy an older quality bike than a newer budget bike with the same money.

bandit, and sv650 are budget bikes and have budget suspenion, brakes etc

depends on how much u have to spend, but if you have £1500 a thundercat is good

if you have more, £2000 gets u a tt600, £2500 a 98 r1 is lovely

but it depends what you are gonna use it for

vfr750's are nice and comfy if thrills arent important, but still handle well

I wdnt spend more than £3k on a bike so I dont know what is good above that.

Entirely up to you.

I say the sv.

The bandit isn't referred to the blandit for no reason. Bandit owner clubs are big but you'll find pretty much EVERY bandit has a modification to make it unique. Perhaps thats the only reason they like them i.e. the vast array of customiseable bits.

The sv owners seem to love them to bits, aftermarket cans are necessary to release that lovely sound (yes, G you heard it, it's lovely!!!!!) Few improvements are usual but they seem to have bags more character.

Both bandit and sv would be fine for pillions, they're not 600cc race reps.

It's all down to cosmetics, I say get a second hand sv. Second hand, second hand, second hand!!

As instigator realises, not all SV owners love them. I'm definitely not the only one that doesn't particularly like them. Whether I would like a bandit is another matter as well, of course.

I do accept some people like the sound of tractors, though Wink - if you want a loud / slow rumbly ducati/harley (without hte rattles) sound, then the SV is good. Personally I much prefer to have performance I like, but I've seen plenty of people choose a bike purely on the fact it sounds good Smile.

In a similar manner, I've seen plenty of unmodified bandit owners that love their bikes, as well. It is possible to like a bland parrallel 4 as well as bland twins, ya'know Wink.

I bought my 650 Bandit NEW, as i wanted a reliable first big bike plus it was a good price, plus 2 year warranty, plus 2 years free serviceing, plus ABS brakes

I do know it's not the best bike in the world but it is far from the worse......

The Bandit is a nice bike, your right it doesn't have the bags of power like the sports 600's, but it will tend to keep up on any of Britains roads. It also does the job well with a sturdy engine.

I don't know what the 650 is like however.

Can someone crarify what the 0-60 time for an sv650 (curvy) is. Cause I keep reading that it's 3.2 seconds, but I'm a bit surprised by that. Shocked

I found somewhere that quoted 4.1 seconds for the S model, but this, I think, was the pointy.

I'd estimate around 4.5s to 60, a nadge over 11s for 100, 13s or so for the quarter mile.

I'd have guessed about 4.5 myself.

Got to have a play with starts on me race bike with a veypor, so might be able to get you some 'real' stats sometime Smile - though of course this will be downgeared - however the SV can accelerate pretty well in first, so that downgearing may not help much to 60.

Indeed. Since I went up to 46t rear, I've only noticed a major difference in top gear roll on. It is faster to 60, but not any real noticeable amount.

Yep.
Well, actually I own three; two race ones and a road one.

Doesn't mean I like their power delivery characteristics, though.
(Not a fan of the riding position either, for that matter.)
