Biking Essentials

Hi all, I'm getting my bike next week and am trying to figure out exactly what I'll need to have to keep it going and safe.

Here's my list so far:
Chain lubricant
Cover
Padlock & Chain
WD40
Cleaning stuff (spray & sponge etc)

It would be great if you guys could let me know what you think are the essentials that you need on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

one of those disklock reminder things, saves you from riding off with your lock still on.

and a tankbag or panniers, they are better than a rucksac as they are more aerodynamic, and if you come off, you dont have a bag full of stuff to land on lol

You'll also want:

Motorbike engine oil
Brake fluid
Anti freeze
Compressed air
Redex

Oh and I found a great chain lube; spray on grease from Halfords. Good stuff, and very easy to use!

The best cleaning stuff I've found is Auto Glym - you can buy loads of polish and wheel cleaner and stuff, but I just bought the shampoo conditioner.

Keep in mind that a lot of this is expensive stuff, but much of it will last for months and months, so there's no need to buy it immediately. Redex and compressed air, for example, can wait. As can expensive shampoo.

A big thumbs up for Auto Glym products from me, too. I use the Motorcycle Degreaser (bloody fantastic stuff - gets all the gunk off wheels with just one wipe) and Motorcycle Cleaner (for general cleaning). I've also got some Autoglym Show Shine which finishes it off nicely!

I was recommended Wurth Dry Chain Lube as being one of the best so this is what I use.

and maybe if you do lots of miles one of those 50p tyre tread depth gauges to tell you went to change tyres.

these things are essential they hold my bike together without them it'll fall to bits.
