TOT... car related
my car has developed a grinding sound when I brake heavily
Brake pads gone ?

I had a look on the kwik fit website, and it says that your pads AND discs need replacing if you hear a grinding sound
It doesn't happen all the time though this sound

My OH says it's only the pads, and the discs should be fine

Oh flumps

Anyone know ?
How long will they need my car for ?

TIA

Your disc's will need replacing or regrinding only if this has been happening for some time, from your post it doesnt sound like it has happened long enough for the disc's to be scored.
pads should take about 10 mins to replace but if your taking it in to have them done then expect to pay for at least 1 hours labour.

Thanks for that

I thought I heard something slight once last week, and it has just done it twice this afternoon on a 15 minute trip

I hope to God it is only the pads then

Hi

The disks might be damaged, but chances are not if it has just started happening. Do not drive it if they are grinding except to get it fixed (worst case scenario, you brake hard, metal backing plate of pad melts and welds itself to the disk, instant very locked wheel).

All the best

Keith
