I never used to like The Smiths, but I have got really into Morrisey and the Smiths, favourite song now is "Panic", fantastic stuff!

Anybody else a bit partial to those mancunians?

i love the smiths, but all the stuff by morrisey since is crap.

So i think really its Johnny Marrs guitar in the smiths that i love.

On one of the albums, there is an instrumental version of one of the songs. No morrisey at all. It would be quite nice if you could get instrumental versions of all of them.

I went through a phase of liking them, and bought all their albums, however I don't really listen to them any more. They certainly had an original sound/style and had some cracking songs, but a lot of pretencious people seem to worship them which I don't really understand. I wouldn't even say they were the best british pop band of the 80s, cus I prefer the Cure.

Rip the cds onto your computer, and use a sound editor to remove the vocals from each track. I think many mp3 playing software includes this function now-a-days. (think there is a winamp plugin to do it).

Some of the most depressing shit ever to reach vinyl. Whining pretentious lyrics from some sad git with a garden centre growing out of his arse. Music to slit your wrists to.

No, I don't like the Smiths Thumbs Down

Cheers,

Byrnie.

i like it when people say the smiths are "depressing" or "slit your wrists"
Its all very tounge in cheek and most of the lyrics are pretty funny if you have a good listen.
Sweet and tender hooligan is my favourite.

I was well into them back in the day, preferred them to Morrisey when he went solo. I think How soon is now was their best track- the words fitted perfectly for me at the time (not sad now tho' Laughing ). My mate looked just like Morrisey, even down to the dodgy shirts and daffodils in the back pocket lark Mr. Green
