Can you actually buy 1 5/8 inch sockets ? took it to b&Q to get it measured and he said i need that size  |

This for on your moped? Unless it was made in the USA, it won't be an imperial size. In Europe and Japan they use metric for everything other than wheel rim diameters. 1 5/8" will be close to the actual size but probably not exactly right.
1 5/8" is 41.3mm.
