Did a quick search on this topic and seemed to get alot back about autocom, but these are a bit out of my price range!

All I want is a simple bike-to-bike intercom system for a touring trip to France, and spotted this kit on eBay: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Motorcycle-to-Motorcycle-Radio-Intercom-System-Cobra_W0QQitemZ8063592206QQcategoryZ122235QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Looks pretty basic, but it has had good reviews from looking at the feedback and its cheap enough...

Any thoughts? Im looking at a £100 budget, so don't expect anything special!

Apparently the cabra stuff is goo, £89 seems fecking rediculous though ive got to say.. same stuff should be available from maplins probably cheaper, wont cost to have a look..

Its not going to be effective at high speed though unless its propper stuff afaik...

Very very important is a PTT button, vox is shite on these for bike use ime..

Had a quick look on Maplin's website... came back with this to start: https://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=1&ModuleNo=27212&doy=7m5

£30 just for the headset/mic, so thats £60 to start & radios. Is this correct?

I didn't think £90 was too steep, but I don't know much about intercoms anyway! Confused

do yourself a favour and have a look for a throat mic. They tend to do better at speed. Just need to be careful with the collar on your jacket rubbing on them.
Don't forget you need something with vox

I have lost count of the times I have read threads about 'cheap' intercoms. peple buy them thinking bargain. Use them on the road and can't hear a thing above 30mph, then realise they should have invested in an Autocom or similar. I personally know people who have bought, used and discarded the kit from Maplins as it really is very poor.

You can get pre 2006 autcom systems at half price now, if you can find a dealer who has any left. Alternatively go for starcom or intaride

Jinxy i have got the set from maplin paired witht the cobra radios, they are really good, you can still hear what people are saying properly at 80-90 (not sure about above as i've only got a 125) so i'd recommend them.

OK, cheers! Thumbs Up

Don't particually need them to work any faster than that really.. only need them for checkin directions/idle banter... dont see myself doin that at 90mph+.

They'll be fine for that. I used them for training with my dad for my bike test.

They work very well.

Used that set up for a trip down to Wales with my brother it worked well enough at close range but any thing over 150m in build up arias and twice that in the open and there useless.

But for £90 they let us talk when stopped at lights and the like easily and pass directions and instructions when on the move reasonably well.

Invest in the autocom stuff mate. Its far better than the 'bargain' stuff to be had.

If you only use it once, bang it on ebay and you get a good 2nd hand price for it too.
