DVDShrink will get the files off the DVD; I can't remember if it can compress the files though. Laughing Wink

www.videohelp.com

THere's a section there on how to convert a particular format to another.

If you want just the film and nothing else off the DVD then it's possible but a bit of a slow process. If you want to take all the menus and extras and different soundtracks then it's not possible.

Is it a downloaded dvd?
is it a genuine dvd disc?
is it a copied dvd disc?
do you want to save it as a full movie on your hdd? or just a part of the dvd?
Or do you want to rip a dvd to your hdd for buring at a later date?

To some extent it is possible but not as a mpeg or avi file, but this programe alows you rip the dvd to hdd and play it as a full dvd including menus and extras...

That's why I was asking if he wanted DVD style menus with an AVI.
You can rip the disk and play it as it is and it works just like a DVD. Convert it to another format though and you'll lose the menus.

I've use DVD decrypter + DVD Shrink + Nero to make backups of my DVD's, however:

I'd like a way to turn *.VOB's from my under TV DVD recorder into *.avi's (divx) for achieving purposes.

Will winavi do this task or are there better alternatives?

I want to record programmes from TV to DVD then put them on our network so people can watch them without fannying about dropping tapes and DVD's off to people.

Ok i got you now Wink
ok when you have recorded the programe from the telly on the dvd you will have 2 folders one is ts and the other is rm if you go into the ts folder you will see the VOB files these are the programes.

you will need to either save these to the hdd or just convert from the disc(hard drive being faster)

Any conversion programe will then convert the VOB file to a mpeg.
i use Amor AVI DivX MPEG to VCD SVCD DVD Creator & Burner amongst others. by saving the vob as a vcd file it is converted to mpeg which can then be converted to avi or divx .

i will get you a coupld of programes in a while m8 as i just have to pop out.
