gilera runner no spark?

hi everybody be kind cos im new............lol
ok.. my son has a gilera runner sp50c 2 stroke watercooled ped.
it doesnt have a spark at all.. i had a look +i cant find any power down to the cdi unit at all.. from what i can see the green lead comes of the ignition switch thro the charging coils +down to the cdi ..? so should it have 12v there all the time to feed it.. ?i have cleaned the pick up on the flywheelwhich connects to the red lead on the cdi unit.. also a white lead comes from the charger to the cdi what does this one do? any help will be reallly appreceated..
