Self explanitory question. Ive heard loads of talk of them, googled 'motorbike cans' but only got shops, none with an explanation of what they do to the bike. Also! Is there anyone that sells CG cans (I know, its ludicrous) Its just mine came with no exaust, just a strangely shiny blunderbus on the side.

The back bit of the exhaust, shaped like a giant baked bean can.

All the best

Hi

Not really that much effect. Most stock exhaust cans are pretty good, so you tend to only get a small increase in power, and often a large increase in noise.

All the best

They make a bike louder.

Well, technically, quieter if you don't any kind of 'silencer'. But the main reason people replace standard with aftermarket is to make it louder. On some bikes they can give performance gains, especially with jetting changes. However must fairly modern bikes come with pretty well designed stock exhausts.

Also looks, of course; so that you've got a fancy name on the side of your bike, just like the WSB heros do Smile.

Depends on the state of the bike - can make it faster, slower or make no difference.

As with a full system, it's best to get jetting sorted anyway.

An aftermarket can fitted without fueling mods will often actually make a bike slower and less powerful than on the standard can. Not enough to notice, but it'll show up on a dyno.
Aftermarket can plus fueling mods - is likely to make the bike pick up better and pull smoother, possible slight increase in top speed but on a road bike that's not worth anything really. Most people buy one for cosmetic reasons, and for the change in sound, or to improve ground clearance on some bikes.

I doubt very much (and stand to be corrected) that many people buy an end can for performance purposes. More like more noise and if they are honest its the BLING factor and for the name. Why buy a Micron when you can have a akrapovic or Yoshi. Wink It's like choosing between George and Fila. Mr. Green

Afraid there's no custom can for the CG...

There's a MOTAD aftermarket system, but I think it's just a stainless steel version of the CG system (Better!)

You can't replace the 'can' as such, as it's welded to the downpipes (The long tube that connects to the can that runs from the exhaust manifold on the cylinder head, ie; to the right of your spark plug).

From what I can see on my exhaust, it seems the giant 'trumpet' is basically a 'cover' for what it a little hosepipe exhaust, I imagine smashing a spike down it would make the bike a bit more growly, but I'd check the jetting afterwards.
