PostPosted: 21:44 - 10 May 2006    Post subject: Help with Datatool Veto Evo Reply with quote

I had the battery off the bike charging for a few days and so the alarm (Veto Evo) went flat as you'd expect. When I reconnected everything the alarm wouldn't respond to either of the key fobs.

I went through the "despiking" procedure on the Datatool website - except that I didn't disconnect the PCB from the loom because I literally couldn't pull them out, so I took the bike master fuse out since I thought that would achieve the same effect. The despiking didn't work though, the alarm still wouldn't recognise the fobs (I pressed both buttons for 5 seconds as described in the manual).

I'm doing it again tonight but I've disconnected the battery too. I'm not overly confident it's going to work at this stage, does anyone have any handy tips? Thanks in advance Smile

Well the second try didn't work either. Guess I'm going to have to contact Datatool for help.

Could the fact that I let the internal battery run flat have anything to do with it? It looks like a pretty old skool Ni-Cad 9V battery that must be six years old if it's the original, so I can't imagine it will be in very good health.

I would have said do the de-spiking stuff, but obviously you've already done that.

Consider replacing that 9v battery?

I suppose that's the cheapest thing I can do now to try and fix it. I'm not sure what part the internal battery plays while the bike battery is connected - I mean, do you think the internal battery maybe powers the radio receiver regardless of whether the bike battery is connected or not?

I'd think if that battery is completely completely flat then nothing's going to happen.

But I don't actually know.

I think it's sickpup who installs Datatool alarms, maybe give him a PM. I've also emailed Datatool, they were very helpfull tbh.

Did you email Datatool using the contact form on their website?

Or do what I'm going to be doing this weekend and remove the damn thing. I hate bike alarms and I always will, I've owned about five or six bikes with them and everyone of them has gone wrong (the alarms, not the bikes) including one that immobilised me in the middle of nowhere on my 96 Blade and one on my Thundercat that caught fire!!

You can get the same insurance discount for datatag and a thatcham approved ground anchor and chain, plus the anchor and chain will do a better job of saving your pride and joy.

Sorry, rant over, as you were Mr. Green

Cheers

Mine came with it too, and I love it. It does get a bit annoying at time. But I'm very glad it's there.

It's all fixed. I had to do the "re-keying" procedure, also from the Datatool website. The only problem was that you had to connect 12V to one of the wires on the (closed) protective trigger switch. Which I couldn't find. Much swearing and wire tracing ensued, and it turned out that the reason I couldn't find it is because it's not there Smile The offending wires were taped up (not connected together) up near the battery. Quick bit of stripping and twisting (wahey) and the job was a good 'un. Thank God Smile

Razz

I would have PMed you if the red mist had lifted before I found those elusive green-tagged wires... Having figured out that the switch didn't exist, I was surprised that the wires weren't connected together - I thought the alarm would be expecting to find the "switch" closed during normal operation.

No the circuit works when closed although the switch normally has three connections so it can be set to trigger in the open or closed position. You can always retrofit a switch for the seat if you want to protect the alarm.
