Well, it's the first birthday my girlfriend and I have encountered together.

We've been together a few months now and it's her birthday, just want some suggestions for presents.

She's very arty, so I want to get something arty, I was thinking a decent set of pencils, or paints or something. Because she thinks she's not very good at it, but I want to nurture that side of her cuz she's really talented.

So something arty, but maybe think outside the box, I don't really know enough about the genre. Thoughts I'd throw it open to you guys.

How much are you going to spend?

Get a nice painting (her favourite)

a plaque

a ticket to an art gallery (travel etc)

I don't really know enough about what she likes artwise to do that. And I'd rather it was something that she can use and be creative with.

I know she likes water soluble pens, so I may get a nice set of those.

Dunno, thinking about £30. Nothing major major, we are still a very new couple. I'd rather it was something small-ish, but showed I care, and have spotted the talent and am nurturing something she loves that she gets little recognition for.

Get a massive sheet of wood (Like 12 foot wide and 6 foot high) and cover it in canvas.

Mount it on a wall in her garage.

Buy her a set of watercolours and get her to go play Smile

Think an art kit is the best idea. Shows her you know her and it's not too over the top. Just get her some decent stuff; quality not quantity. And get whatever method she likes to use.

Yeah exactly, I might get her a set of decent water soluble pens.

And Loz, close but no cigar.

Is pole dancing a form of art?

If so www.boystuff.co.uk sell a extendable pole. Helps keep her fit, nurtures her artistic dancing side and hell you get to watch.

Everyones a winner. Thumbs Up

I knew it was a bad idea asking you guys. Thumbs Up to Gav though.

I was thinking water colour pencils aswell, but they seem a bit cliched, and don't look too special.

Ya know you only really buy a box of cigars cuz they come in a cool box, I think the same is true for art stuff. They're the non-smoker's cigars.

Go to a 'craft world' or similar place and wander around?

Usually loads of interesting such stuff and ideas for arty projects, etc.

Instead of buying her a gift why not take her somewhere that she'll enjoy? Maybe a art exhibition, a picnic, theme park, music venue?

Best pressie I got my girlfriend was tickets to the RHCP. I didn't tell her anything, let her open her deliberately rubbish presents and then told her that I needed to pop to the shops. When we got in the car I asked her to put on some music and suggested the chillies, when she opened the CD box the tickets fell out.

BIG brownie points for me and, even better, I got to enjoy her day with her!

I think she might see that more as a treat for her man than a treat for her but depends on the girl I guess.

Would agree with the visit to an exhibition/gallery idea. Have a look if she has any art book's, find out the artist's that she like's then find a gallery with their work.

If she already has a set of paint's/pen's then getting another is pointless. Letting her choose a selection would be better, if not as surprising for her.
