for an NTV650 how many miles between oil changes?.

I've recently been doing them every 3500 miles , but looking in my haynes it says:

every 6 months or 8000 miles ,

the honda manual I haven't got but think it said 6000 miles ,

while Sickpup says every 4000 miles, so what is it?

Also how many miles between changing the shaft drive oil and whats good in the shaft since I'm sure its not the same stuff as goes into the engine.

note about 60k onthe clocks.

any suggestions (last oil change was some synth stuff 3396 miles ago).

thanks

Sickpups got direct experience with them, so I'd take his advice.

If someone's already said, why ask again?

as per the tyres debate in the chatroom , last night , it might have been a depends on how you ride type answer , while I am not a courier and I ride fairly mildly except in certain circumstances, Sickpup is a courier and runs his bikes harder than normal civvies.

being piss poor doesn't help either esp when you have other consumables to replace (air filter , tyres etc).

Changing oil more frequently than every 4000 miles is false economy, as long as you are putting decent oil in there. For something as relatively unstressed as an NTV650, I'd use semi-synthetic and change it every 6000 miles. Check it regularly though, I take a tiny drop and rub it between my fingers, if it's like water, black and offers little friction reduction, change it, if it's still thick, gold and feels slippery, don't.

Cheers
