i went to the cinema recently and saw and advert for the Think! campain.

There was a first person view of a bike that was driving pretty dangerously and takes a bend too fast and ends up on the wrong side of the road with a car from the other way hitting it! Thumbs Down

Are they trying to portray bikes as dangerous?

at the end it says 'Think, look out for bikes' a bit sarcastic! Confused

comments?

I'm sure bikes going into corners a bit too fast can cause a lot of car accidents, but wasn't there some starts that said for a given year something around 75% of bike accidents were found to be the car drivers fault? So surely there should be loads of ones aimed at car drivers and only a few at us? It just seems like it's easier to blame us sometimes, because we're the minority

But yes, the sarcastic comment does sound a bit crap Thumbs Down I'll have to see it for myself though

i think the ad sends out a bad vibe for everybody else.

It gives bikes a bad name, makes us all look like reckless drivers! Sad

Hi

About 2/3 of car bike accidents are the car drivers fault. But a very large number of bike accidents are single vehicle accidents.

All the best

Keith

The one with the car pulling out in front of the bike makes me cringe.

My grandad was bleating at me about that smidsy advert that the guy looked like he was doing a hell of a speed to not be seen.

Rolling Eyes

I tried explaining to him the zoning or whatever its called, and if you watch it all the second version he potters past PAINFULLY slow.

The best advert for bike safety i ever saw was hanging in the Cat & Fiddle. It read simply:
If you ride like a knob, you'll die.

The biggest problem with bike accidents is human error, whether by the rider or car drivers. The only way to minimise risk of accidents is to ride within your personal limits, treat everything and everyone else on the road as a potential danger, trust no-one but yourself, your life is in your hands.
An example- when approaching a junction, don't just expect the car to stay put, believe he is going to pull out or turn right in front of you, slow down, position yourself in a way to avoid it, watch the cars wheels, the first sign of movement will show here.
When overtaking a line of cars always look out for the one that doesn't want you to pass him and will pull out.
Don't cut blind corners or rush headlong into corners on a road you don't know.
Use as much road as possible(without crossing the white line) to maximise your vision of what's ahead.
Think about every situation you see in front of you, try to imagine the dangers that could arise, watch every car, pedestrian, bike, animal, whatever.
These are simple things which could avoid accidents, for more info try and get hold of a book called Roadcraft.
