Since the weather has turned nice i am noticing a lot of young lads riding their crappy little scooters either topless or in t-shirt and shorts, and no gloves in either case.
I know they look cool as fuck and are obviously dead 'ard but i just want to tell them to grow up and stop being so stupid.
Even coming off at 20 is really going to make a mess.
Kids, eh !! |

Thats one reason why more bikers die in the summer.
So tempting to whip some1 back with a glove or somthing when you see them riding topless.
And another thing, How come Ive never seen any girls riding topless, Are they more sensible or somthing? |

There's quite a freedom vs safety battle here. If it was made a legal requirement to have a jacket and gloves, i'm sure we would see just as many cavalier teenagers.
I wear my jacket nearly all the time (i ride without it maybe 10 times a year), i try to wear my boots as often as possible, and i always wear my gloves, and i know about the risks. The fact is, that on these very rare occasions, i'm willing to take the risk.
I agree, it is a shame that they either don't know or don't care about the risks of coming off unprotected, but making it a legal requirement to wear a jacket is just taking the piss a bit.

So should that be summer golves or winter golves?, leather (how thick) texile, kevlar or wool. As cold hands in winter could be bad.
|
So how thick should a helmet be? What material?
They dont do it that way, They have a sticker saying its approved. I do see your point though. I surpose some people would say its like stopping the TT, If people wona risk there lives for the thrill, then they should beable to. I dont think wearing no T shirt is a thrill ( Unless your gay.. )
And no, Jackets dont stop you from getting killed, But jackets help stopping you from getting killed. I just dont see the point of wasting all that NHS money on someone who needs skin grathing when if they was atleast wearing a jacket they could of walked away ( Or only have to do the work on the legs... )
If I had to choose between personale right, and Safety over a matter like this then I would choose the safety part, But like I said, I do see your point. |

Hi,
The age old a NHS argument is probably the most dangerous of all. I bet a can find a sizable number of people who would ban all bikes becasue they are unnecessary risk, you could use a car or walk. They same logic would apply to climbing, fishing, horse riding. It is not something I would ever what to see started. We have A&E to deal with accidents. Not accidents that someone else felt could have been avoided/less serious if the injured party had done X or worn Y or not worn Z.
Remeber the accident would still have occured regardless of the kit worn
(Helmets like seat-belts are not always a good thing)
Regards
