Indeed!

Look carefully the front suspensions under that tank! (so if you had a Cspanner you could actually adjust it while your rideing)

And yes it does work, saw the owner ride it off.. scarey stuff though!

Yup, not surprising that it won 'Best Engineering' as well as 'Best in show'. Though I'm personally skepticle of how well the bike would stand up to regular use.

I would say the bike that impressed me the most was Dr Death's very minimal 'best ratfighter' winner, though there isn't a pic of it there.

For some reason I can never access his www.pre-auto.com pics, maybe it doesn't like internet explorer?

Btw, just realised that I meant to let sam have a ride on the 550 since he said he's never ridden an inline four, but then went and totally forgot about it before leaving Doh! Cheers for that tyre stuff btw chris Thumbs Up

That chap I gave the solderless nipple to at the rally to fix his snapped clutch cable lost it, but I happened to notice it lying on the floor whilst we were chatting with big chris and a few others in the car park. Unfortunately I forgot to put it back with my tools on the bike, so when my clutch cable snapped this morning on the way to work I had nothing to fix it with Rolling Eyes Oh well, at least it didn't snap after leaving the rally 100 miles from home.

can't see much point in rat bikes to be honest.

riding them makes you look like a tramp.
they look like they are about to dissapear in a puff of rust.

Cheap, practical, unique, badass. That's what ratbikes are all about. Your average plastic-fantastic is none of those things.

Not all sportsbikes riders dress like Power Rangers, I certainly don't. Is the whole Rat Bike subculture based upon Mad Max?

I can't help but see it more along the lines between:

I can’t make my mind if I really like the rat bike thing. In any it is interesting and a way of expression.

But this one is ART! Many hours of work, specific idea and very nice engineering.

Why pay silly ammounts doing something clever with your bike when you can think things for yourself and do somehting as good/better (luggage for one example)

When i go to a bike meet i go and nosey arorund the place thinking.. hmm yes well thats a kazasaki ninja, ohh look that ones blue.. and has a shiney bit added.. hmm.. a nice r6, hmm shiney..

Go to this rally and you can spend 30minutes on most of the bikes and still not see everything, 99% of them know their stuff and everyone was really cool to chat with (even if some were a bit tapped Razz )..

Depends on your defention of a rat, imo, painting a bike black and writeing rat on it dosn't make it one.. its when you start adding or removeing things.. takeing crap off you dont need and adding things that improve the bike.. but some just like decorateing theirs, some like takeing every thing they dont need off (like seats, subframes e.t.c.)

The word is "evolves" Thumbs Up

Substitute your random shack picture for Ray Mears' base camp and you'd be closer.

It's different. That's the point. Smile

Although different, I don't quite have an appetite for living in the woods, feeding on tree bark and barbequed squirrel, before relieving my number twos in a few wraps of cling film and a self made ditch.
