From the reviews I have seen, the only major fall back of the CBR is the cam chain. Is this really as big a problem as people seem to make out? Owners advice would be helpful.
Or is it a case that people only generally right reviews if they have a problem with their machine.

Thanks in advance

It's the known weak point but its not really a problem, basically if you develop a really bad camchain rattle, you get the tensioner replaced.

Mine's done 33 thousand miles and is still happily on the original tensioner - I'm sure it's not the only one!

Bendy - I've just got a CBR and was wondering how loud and noticable the rattle from the CCT is if its buggered. Can it do any damage to the bike?

Bendy - What kind of range can I expect?

Hopefully will have a new job soon and am weighing up commuting options.

Mine's always rattled like a bitch at low revs, but been serviced and nothing found wrong.

If in doubt, get it serviced by a dealer who knows what they're doing. If they say its fine then you know the rattle your particular bike has is okay and should only worry if it gets louder / changes.

Rattling, not a big deal. Cam chain snaps... big deal.

Tank range? I get about 130 miles before the reserve light comes on, but mine's quite downgeared so you should be able to do a bit better than that on standard gearing.

I read that they "usually" go at around 24k miles.

Mine went at around 12,000 miles, you will be able to tell easily when its on its way out. I didnt repair my own but if you are fairly competent it doesnt look like it would be such a big deal. David silver stocks the CCT's for something like £56 plus a gasket - if it lasts 12-15k then a hundred quid to put it right doesnt seem like much to keep it going!
