A few weeks ago I was out in Herts and pulled into a gravel car park. The ramp into the car park is tarmac but then there's a sudden drop where all the gravel/earth has eroded away.

Needless to say the bottom of the car took a clout and now the exhaust is blowing.

I took the car into my local Kwik Fit but they said it was the manifold that had been knocked and they'd have to book it in rather than a roll in roll out job. Fair enough, they are called 'kwik fit' for a reason, they aint a fully equipped garage.

Now, do you think it's unreasonable of my to claim the repair back from the council.

The carpark is run by them and so are the roads. If I had been on the bike and hit this, I could have been serisouly injured. The roads around Letchworth and Hitchin are shite anyway so it's clear they have no interest in highway maintenance.

How would I go about trying to claim?

pictures of the area it happened and the damage it caused to the car? then write to the council i would have thought. but get the pictures before you write so they dont try and pull a fast one by repairing it and saying that it was your fault or something similar. i may be completely wrong about this but ive seen quite a few similar threads about people coming off there bikes becuase of dodgy roads. maybe worth doing a seach of the forum to see if anyone can help you better than i can?

Hope this helps you Thumbs Up

What do you drive? Unless you drive something out of the ordinary then there is no way the manifold was knocked on the ground, the only way the knock could have damaged the manifold would be if the downpipe was pushed up into it and I think you may have some difficulty proving that to the council.

kwik fit is full of idiots and the only reason they would have to book it in would be because they didn't have a manifold in stock, it's a pretty straight forward job.
