But one thing that crossed my mind was that: -

What if we have a crash, what do we do?

What details do we have to exchange? Reg No? What?

I was thinking about it and I wouldn't have a clue. What are the things you have to exchange with the third party?

I'm interested. Smile

Name, address, reg no and phone number(s).

If you happen to carry your insurance docs in your pocket give them those too, but AFAIK it's fine to get in contact later to exchange those.

I don't officially know what you're supposed to get but I always get the

registration of offending vehicle
name of driver
telephone number
name of their insurers

That way you've always got something to work on. Give them the same.

If you carry a camera phone or digital camera take some photos of the scene too.

You don't need to give anything if you leave the scene.

You should EXCHANGE:
Name
Adddress
Ins. Details.

DO NOT ADMIT LIABILITY TO ANYONE.

That is the right of your insurers.

You are at liberty to appolgise which will not mean you admit fault.

Be courteous and try to remain calm.

These things are normaly highly emotional. (Women cry etc. Laughing )

If you caused the collision, and you do not inform your insurer the other party would find it very difficult to make you pay up.
Unless he has competant witnesses or report from police who may have attended. Then they would try to take an action against you in court. (I have that T shirt in a drawer somewhere.)

Not many grey areas in that but your Policy, Schedule and Certificate of Insurance would normally have instructions included.
It is in your insurers interest to help you report in the appropriate manner

Arrow take some photos , 35mm disposable cameras are better as:

they give much clearer pictures than digital
they can be massively enlarged and still give good clarity
they don't need to be warmed up or need to scroll through 100s of
menus to get to the take photo option
non electronic forms of photos are less likely to be edited esp if you have negatives too (parking attendants used to edit their photos to make people look guilty).

note down his/her plate
prevent the other bastid driving off ,
call the cops,
get names of witnesses.
Don't move the vehicles unless you have many many pictures*

*drivers of cars have a harsh habit of doing this since they often are damaged but not damaged enough to be imobilised, and move them to a position that puts them in a more favourable light.

You do not need to call the police if you have not caused injury to anyone and the only damage is to private vehicles. The only time were police attendance is required is when injury is caused, damage to public property has occured or if the accident is causing an obstruction or that you feel the driver is under the influance of drink or that they have no insurance or if the other party leaves the scene without swapping details.

As its been said before in another thread, it you get knocked off when its not your fault and even if you are not hurt ,stay on the deck and wait for he police/amblance to be called as the police will be able investagte the crash and this will stop the other party making things up and fantom witnesses who were,nt evern there backing them up.

If you get hit on your bike, go down and scream like a premiership footballer looking for a penalty. Stay down and wait for the Police. That way, you'll get a Police record of the scene.

A mate of mine was taken out by a U-turning taxi, wasn't really hurt etc and was all sorted at the scene. When the insurance got involved, the taxi driver lied and said he was turning right and that the accident happened further up the road, where there was a side-road. He got blamed for overtaking a vehicle turning right (no witnesses).

It's a jungle out there.

Cheers

I do read the policy the only thing it actually said about when you have a crash is to ring their claims number.

Who is it with? Every one I have ever had has a whole section on...don't take responsibility...exchange details of insurers..etc, even the third party fire and theft ones. Confused

every time ive been involved in an accident (ive been rear ended whilst at lights on a ped, reversed out in front of from behind a walled entrance, and bike run over while I was in a shop. All none fault) I have rung the police, and they havent given 2 shits, I was hurt when i got reversed in front of and they still didnt bother coming. Evil or Very Mad Anyways as everyone else has said its reg no, name address contact number. As for cameras, some 35mm disposables are proper shit, and some phone cameras are excellent. If you have a decent phone cam i wouldnt bother with a disposable.

It really is a shit system. We pay hundreds, even thousands every year for insurance and can still be screwed over. I'd feel like a total dick pretending to be hurt if i wasn't but i think i'll have to bear in in mind. Perhaps just say my back hurts or something.

It would be brilliant if the police or even the insurance co's employed people with official status who you could call in the event of any accident and they would attend and log all the details. It should only take 15-20 mins and would save that time 10 fold in court cases and paperwork when the guilty asshole denies it.

America is retarded when it comes to this. You have to have on you all the time Lisence, Reg, and insurance if you dont have those they can own you.

Also the thing that bugs me even if its a little fender bender i.e no one hurt a bit of paint scratched and a little dent you gotta call the cops Confused
