Hello everyone,

I am 26 yrs old and have passed my CBT on a provisional licence. I don't have a full car licence (yet) and ride with L plates. I ride a CBR 125 with approx 14 HP (restricted in the end can to meet learner laws).

I have heard from some sources that, as i'm over a certain age I can legally derestrict it (up to 33 HP, potentially). Is that true?

The only reason I ask is because I live in Yorkshire and it can be quite hilly, a bit of extra power would come in very handy!

On a provisional licence you are only permitted 14.6bhp, upon passing your test (A2) you can ride up to 33bhp. If you take the DAS option you can ride any power motorcycle.

The CBR125 is a 4 stroke 125, and will have been designed to output 14.6bhp(ish), therefore cannot be derestricted as it isn't restricted.

Hi

As above. The legal limit is actually 11kW, which is why you get figures of 14~15hp, depending on how accuratly people move between the measurements.

Not a hope in hell of getting 33hp from a CBR125.

All the best

Keith

Yeah, I think I just figured that out - some guy posted about his NSR, saying "...as it's a 2 stroke you can derestrict it...".

It's a shame though, still, plan B should be good: Direct access then GSX-R 600!!

Thanks for the speedy reply everyone.

That has helped me out too!

I now know a little bit more about bikes, as i've only just done my CBT though.

I can't do D.A.S because of my Age.
