Hi, thought i'd start a topic for my 1987 Fzr 750 (import) i have owned for about a year, and got round to doing jack sh*t to! Embarassed
Well actually i have stripped quite a lot off of her!
But enough is enough and this year is THE year! I have decided!

Only paid £200 for it! Razz
I havent got any photo's from when i first got it!
Well might have on my old mobile, try and post them up if i get a chance.
But since then i have removed the well knackered and sh*te front end and various other parts from it!And sourced an Fzr 1000 (not usd) set of forks for her!The old plan was to use a TZR250 wheel for the front, which was already available to me,was nice with silver painted spokes and polished rim!
But have decided to use an FZR1000 wheel as the TZR had been spaced out and looked a little skinny in the forks! Rolling Eyes
And also would have had to make caliper brackets(were almost completed anyway) and the tyre size wasnt to my liking!

Well here's a pic of what she/it looks like at the moment!
I know, not that pretty!

But with some hard work and elbow grease it could come out good!

If you havent noticed, the rear swingarm and wheel is from a YZF 750! And is more sexy than the standard one! Also get better rubber for her! Very Happy

Lately had a change of plan due to some disheartening factors!
After going on the FZR1000.co.uk (thanks guys) website i found that the japanese import version i own is restricted to 77-80 bhp! Shocked
So for an engine with unknown reliability (only had it fired up not moving) and a high mileage i think i dont want to spend the money or time it takes to de-restrict it!
I would like to hear some people's thoughts on what follows!

Idea After much thought and umming and arrring, i think this decision could be the answer!
I also own an FZ750 from the same year! that has a lower mileage and better condition engine, better exhaust system, and can vouch for the reliability and performance of the engine!

Basically what i am saying is i am going to take the living breathing fire spitting heart and lungs from this:

https://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g227/h3llr4iser/P3050967.jpg

https://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g227/h3llr4iser/P3050962.jpg

And put it into the FZR, will have to look into how it affects the DVLA side of things! Confused
But from what i can work out the engine should go straight into the frame!
Anyone know any different?
So the engine, carbs ,loom, clocks and exhaust will all be going in! Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down ?

Before people say: NO dont break a perfectly good bike!
I think it's what i really want! If you looked closely at the FZ it also needs a bit of work to keep her roadworthy for the fast approaching mot test!
And can also sell on the spares from it! And besides i have always wanted a streetfighter from as far back as i can remember so this is a more convenient way for me to get one! Also the satisfaction of being able to say "i built that!".

So i shall be back here when i have collected said forks from mates lockup and sourced more parts i need and got to work with the build!
Thanks to bidman for the help on wheel, discs and caliper setup for the Fzr1000 forks! Thumbs Up

Hi,
Cheers fot the interest guys, only two so far! Embarassed
But thanks to bidman and quackerboy!
Any tips will be greatly appreciated! Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Only a quick update today!
As no actual work done!
I dont think i'm gonna be doing loads of mirror polishing and things like that, and no silly jacked up seat heights! Laughing
Probably be painting most parts! Not gonna be a show winner!
And i want a practical bike out of it!
Gotta keep to a budget! What the amount of this is i couldnt say! Rolling Eyes
Probably keeping the original look of the back end bodywork, there's something i like about a narrow rear and a fat 180 tyre!

Anyway, have had this for a little while,i got it for £60 and they are £210 new! Clapping Photo from seller so not my house!

https://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g227/h3llr4iser/simpsonpredator2.jpg

Wanted one for ages! Thats the front fairing option sorted!

Just sourced a wheel for the front! Very Happy
Just been powder coated too Thumbs Up ,so gotta wait for that to come through or be collected!
Paid a little bit much for it, but then i wouldve had to pay for stripping and coating etc!
Photo from seller.

Gotta get some work done on this,as wont have a bike to ride till its finished!
So i will get my forks back early in the week, and then some fun can begin! (i hope) Back soon! Thumbs Up

Very Happy Made some progress today!
Got my forks back from mates garage! Clapping
And fitted back on bike, had to use some spacers for the front wheel, and a spacer tube for the front spindle as was a 15mm spindle and the wheel has a 17mm hole!
Fitted the headlight fairing to the forks!(cable tied for now)

https://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g227/h3llr4iser/Picture065.jpg
https://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g227/h3llr4iser/Picture063.jpg

These in place i decided it was time to have the engine out Twisted Evil .......so.....
Ta da! Surprised Thumbs Up

https://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g227/h3llr4iser/Picture068.jpg

Wasnt as hard as i'd thought it would be!
Maybe putting an engine back in is harder!
Was quite pleased with the result! Gonna give me the incentive to get on with the project! Very Happy
Already got some brake discs on another wheel if mate says i can have em! Whistle
So till i get some painting done and got some more parts i need then thats it for now!
I know it's not gonna be the most original streetfighter, and probably not to everyone's taste, but it's the style i like and reckon i'll be pretty chuffed with the finished result!
See ya! Dance!

Shocked , and I'll say that again, Shocked

I thought I was brave taking my fairings off to see the body work Embarassed The theory behind stripping a bike seems simple enough, unbolt and put back together, but I lack the cahooners to do it.

Bastard Mad Made me think more about stripping mine

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/fzr600_013.jpg

This is as brave as I got Embarassed

The one thing that I have found is that my bike is full of odd and different nuts and bolts, when putting things back together, where can I get replacement ones from.

Are all nuts and bolts for bikes standard sizes, heads and lengths?
