Just set off for home and spotted somebody with their seat off an old bsa, turns out his electrical system had half fryed itself :/ we sorted it out eventualy.. very greatfull sombody had a metric 10mm spanner the one metric bolt on the bike he needed to get at was the only one he couldn't get at Laughing

There were bikes hammering up the hill for a few minutes (the bloke with the fryed bsa was only a corner away) three went up the hill in front of me.. ive allways though if i'd been sat at the side of the road haveing ran out of petrol maybe a bike would stop...

Thumbs Down Sad i know you can't allways stop but for what must had been at least 10 bikes went past and not one stopped is feckin lame

if i ever saw a biker stranded on the side of the road, id pull over to help, not so sure how much help I'd be as my knowledge of bikes is minimal, but I always have my mobile on me so I could help that way.

in the same way I'd hope someone would stop if i was stranded on the side of the road,

i always imagined passing a bike on the side of the road whos biker has his head in the engine would be enough indication, but maybe we should set up some kind of rule like that? Razz

Yeh i think thats the generaly accepted one, but think its not very well known and i've had to stop before and never thought of doing that, too busy wondering how i was geting home Razz (turning the fuel back on helped mind)

ncrn - thats what i was thinking, not everyone has a mobile on them or maybe no credit (me 90% of the time) and in this case a simple spanner ment he could nurse it home.. could even be fuel and a couple of wd40 lids worth could get em to a petrol station..

I think some bikers are reluctant to stop if they';re in a group. The first rider must think "what if the guys behind get pissed off that i've stopped" it's then too late for the following riders, because if they stop, the lead rider comes back and unleashes a helmet full of profanities or something. Daft, but it might be why they don't stop.

Personally, i stop for anyone at the side of the road, unless it's two guys caked in mud with a field bike.

hmm prehaps i should start carrying a spanner as well then, Ive got a little thing that clips under my seat with both types of screwdriver head, its not particually great to use but handy to have all the same.

i dont think I could ride past someone and just not help, I have to much of a conscience for that Razz

you should be more careful about stopping don't just stop , cruise past them U turn cruise past have a good look , then U turn and then decide to stop or not.

Although this isn't a biker broken down link

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/5051146.stm

theres anomolies in UK law that mean if you stop for somebody injured or just been hit by a car , then it can imply a duty of care situation which the injured person may have a right to sue you and take you for everything you have.

Since everybody thinks suing = free money (it isn't) , and that by suing they lose nothing (they don't cus the other side claims their fees from them) , its kind of grey in legal terms.

In dangerous areas say Salford stopping can equate to death and it is all the more important to do a bit of recon and U turns before deciding to stop have a bloody good look for yoofs hiding in bushes ready to ambush you and drag you off your bike.

The blokes I've recently stopped for a bloke on an ancient triumph and side car that was ok cus it was in the middle of nowhere and there was nothing to hide behind, and the fire blade in a ditch I did a few recon turns before giving him a tow.

REMEMBER , doing the right thing and being Altruistic does not prevent you from being attacked/sued.And while being pounded by a big bunch of chavs into unconciousness it won't save you nor will it save you from a big ass law suit.
