Seeing as i have had a nice £550 quote for my gixxa i now need to sort out restriction. I know it costs about £140 for the kit and a few hours labour from a garage.

What i would like to know is how fast do you guys recon a GSXR 600 will go once restricted to 33bhp. Two garages i have spoken to have said completely different speeds. one said 80mph the other 115mph..... anyone got a decent idea of the speed it will go?

Also once fitted, and after i have waited untill im allowed full power, do you know how hard it is to take out the restrictor kit?

Cheers

Ben

With the restrictor in place...it should just basically limit the revs and so power and powerband.

You should still hit 100+ but not top speed..

But why would you want to go faster than 100 anyway ? if your new too big bikes, it's your life in your hands.

115mph sounds about right IMO, it won't get there in a hurry though.

It is very very easy to take the restrictor kit out. Thumbs Up

I've been riding for nearly 3 years and havent had any accidents so far, i feel quite confident and like im a good rider. I want more than 100mph for the same reason everyone else does.

Im a bit of a noob on the mechanics side of things, how hard are we talking to take out restrictors when the time is right?

I have a 33BHP Gixxer, it pulls about 100 on the normal roads and it can get to about 110 on the big straights.
It's still got more than enough power to bite you in the ass if you don't ride it right and it still sounds bloody amazing and goes some.
I only have 2 months before I legally get mine de-restricted, I've had it for over a year but in all honesty there have been at least 5 occurances in that time where I know for a fact that if it was full power I'd have come off, and it's those skip a heartbeat close calls that have made me glad I kept it restricted, I honestly feel that when the time comes I will have learned a lot more about riding in a much safer manner than if I had gone full power off the bat. And I am now pushing through my 5th year of biking on the road without a single crash.
Just my opinions/experience.

Taking restrictors out, you take the petrol tank off, the air box off and then the carbs off. There'll be 4 washers sitting there looking at you, lift those out and then just put everything back together. Whereever you get it restricted, ask them for the fitting instructions. Wink

Just a side note but they also restricted mine in the throttle its self, so it couldn't turn the full amount, took it out when it was in for some repair on the throttle body though and hasn't made any actual difference.

Thanks for the advise Josh and Ste.

I will definately give it a good go while restricted, and not touch the kit untill i feel very confident. Saying that thought i have ridden the gsxr a few times in the countryside illegally with full power, and it felt smooth.

I will deffo ask for the fitting instructions just in case Razz

Cheers
