I have noticed 2 things with my bike when riding in rain.

firstly i feel that at lower speeds 10-30mph the back seems to slide from side to side in rain and wet roads?

also when i apply the rear brakes to do a emergency stop the back just swings out to one side?

is this normal in the wet?

I own a 96 kawasaki gpz500s?

oh and does anyone know a good site i an purchase a screen for this bike from?

Make sure you have decent tyres, that they are properly inflated, that the brakes are properly serviced and decent tread on the tyres.

^^ What Phanny said, except to also check (if you do a lot of fairly straight-line riding) if your back tyre may have squared off a bit.

Mine has, and it feels very odd in the wet now as when I lean it (gently!) instead of going with me it feels like it's trying to push itself back up again and we have had a few wobbly moments together these last couple of wet weeks.

Possibly the tyre but also check your back axle nut is tight with the split pin in and that the rear wheel is aligned properly.

With my old bt45 (same bike) when the tyre was quite cold and the road was wet i could be riding along at say 40mph then give it some throttle and dump the clutch and it would snake all over the place.

Trying the same thing with my new Avon, it doesn't break traction at all.

Just changed from worn to new BT45's.

Makes a hell of a difference in the wet, even in a straight line. My tyres used to slide all over the place (front worn on the sides, rear down the middle) especially when cold. When worn, your contact patch is very narrow when transitioning from straightline to cornering. My divvy would whip around a corner once I pushed it onto the worn section but getting there was dicey at times as it rolled over the lip in the tyre.

K.
