I think you need an engineers report backing up the changes - and you may need to do some kind of test but don't quote me on that one Wink

I dont see why you would, you'd need it sleeved down, an engineers report by a DVLA vehicle inspectorate agency, and an MOT, and it'd have to be dynoed to prove it's restricted to 30mph, so i dont even know if you could legally ride it.

If changing the engine capacity then you just need to fill in the "7. Changes to Current Vehicle" section on your V5. If you're wanting it to be 50cc so that a 16 year old can ride it on a CBT then you'll need to relicense it, speak to your nearest DVLA local office.

But why? Laughing Laughing

this is an interesting one, my dad goes on holiday to Corfu for lots of the year. In order to insure a scooter over there it has to be on greek plates, to get on greek plates easily, (ie without bribing people, or paying import duty of a large percentage of the original retail price) the scooter has to be less than 50cc on paper. Our idea is to buy a 50cc engine off ebay, get an invoice for it or whatever, then sell it again. This would make the scooter a 50cc on paper but a 125cc in real life. This would mean he could take it to Corfu, get it on greek plates, and then ride it around when he is there and leave it at his holiday home.

Hi

To be honest I suspect it might be cheaper just to buy a 50!

I have heard that the Greeks are getting very nasty about doing people trying to avoid vehicle taxes.

All the best

Keith

Who on earth DECREASES the engine capacity?!!? Shocked

Keep the 125 engine in it and whack a Malossi 172 or similar on, and watch it fly. Shocked

yeah they are being generally nasty about the whole scenario, Being in the EU they are "supposed" to let you have any EU plates, and "cant" charge import duty other than a registration fee. The reason for not just getting a 50 is 2 fold. Firstly my dad already has this bike, and secondly he is 6ft 2 and about 16 stone and he wants to be able to ride up and down steep greek hills with his girlfriend on pillion. Obviously this is a task not really suited to a 50cc moped. As far as getting caught with it over there the chances are between nil and not much, I rode a 50 over there last year for a bit and must have seen one or 2 police cars all week. They werent pulling people over with no lights on in the dark or for being blind drunk, so i shouldnt imagine theyd be particularly concerned with noticing a scooter thats bigger than it should be.

Get a 50cc italjet which is totally fucked engine wise, then transfer the running gear onto that frame - much easier and no documentation involved, even though it'll be completely illegal not to notify the DVLA.

no no thats the thing I WANT to notify the DVLA but dont want to actually do the swap (at least not permanentely) basically i want to get it down as 50cc on the logbook with as little effort as possible so that when it goes overseas it will be free to register in Greece. If it is too much stress Ill not bother.
