It's not essential, but many people do to avoid confusion. To me it's a bigger risk sending your licence to the DVLA, as they cock it up so often. Rolling Eyes

I actualy wrote to the DVLA about this.

No you don't have to.

But you can do.

This is the email I got from them.

Once the two-year qualifying period has elapsed, you may ride any size motorcycle.

It is not necessary to have the restriction 25kw, removed from your licence.

However, if you wish to have the restriction removed then please complete a D1 application form, (available from the Post Office), applying for an exchange licence and return it to the Agency with your licence.

Please include a covering letter stating that you wish to have the two-year motorcycle restriction removed.

DVLA are now only issuing photocard driving licences. If you do not have a photocard licence and you wish to have the motorcycle restriction code removed now, you will also need to provide one passport size colour photograph and the requested proof of identity.

I'm going to send mine to them this August, when my restriction is lifted. However, I've made sure that I have scanned, onto my computer, the motorcycle theory and practical test pass certificates, practical test report sheet, back and front of the photocard license, and the paper counterpart.

This way if they do muck anything up, I'll have proof that I did actually pass, and when Thumbs Up
