I discovered this morning that the pads on my front brake seem to be in slight contact with the disc all the time; it makes a grinding noise and I can barely get a full turn out of the wheel if I take it off the ground and give it a push. I had to get to work (on the bike - not the cleverest idea, I know), so I didn't have much of a chance for a closer look, unfortunately. They still engage and dis-engage fine otherwise.

The bike's been serviced last Saturday and thebrake fluid's been topped up, nothing changed otherwise; it was fine when I wheeled it out of the shop, though Confused.

Is it likely to be just overtightened/adjusted somewhere?

I'll have a flick through the Hayne's tonight, but was wondering if anyone knows whether its likely to be an easy fix or whether I should just leave my mitts off it and take it back to the shop.

Hey,

I had the same problem on my GS250. Due to neglect the piston had started to stick in the caliper. Some days i could hardly move the bike it was stuck so solid.

I took the piston out, cleaned all the accumulated muck and rust off, and gave it a good polish.

The seals on my caliper where also perished so they needed replacement before the piston was placed back into the caliper.

be careful if you do take the piston out, make sure you drain the fluid out first.
If you take the piston out you'll have to bleed your front brake again anyway.

All fixed, no more sticking.

Hope that helps,
Shaun

If they have changed the pads in the service theres a good chance that as the new pads are thicker, what was once exposed and dirty parts of the piston could now be binding inside the caliper.

As a quicker fix you could remove the pads, G-clamp one piston in and pull on the brake slowly until the other piston exposes a clean part. Clean the dirt away (nothing too abrasive), polish then smear a tiny bit of brake fluid on the piston. Push the clean piston in, clamp and repeat the other side. Obviously a complete strip down, new seals and fluid is best but its a CG Thumbs Up

BUT.... I would do all the above if you was normally having probs and not just after your service. Take it back m8
