I've finally got my arse into gear and set about rebuilding my bike, i have a new wheel to stick my old tyre onto, but when inspecting the tyre i found a huge gash out of the right hand side sidewall and very edge of the tread (this is the front tyre)

Now i was wondering anyones opinion on whether this would still be ok to use?

I would just get another tyre, but this one only has about 300km on it.

Personally I wouldn't use it, water will get into the wire carcass through that, then it rusts, then BOOM and you have another biking tale to tell.

Its difficult to see how bad that is, Id be inclined to say id still use it, but if you know a local tyre fitter they should be able to tell you if its safe or not, they see the results of tyre failure, so they tend to know whats safe and what isnt (in my experience anyway). If it were me, if it hadnt cut into the canvas i wouldnt replace it.

I just wouldn't bother Dom.

You wouldn't buy it as a 'part worn' tyre, so don't use it.

Treat yourself to new tyres. Out of interest what are they? Dunlops? Get some nice Pirelli Dragons on. Thumbs Up

I think that *any* damage to the tyre wall makes it illegal to use.

Come on, think about how much you depend on your tyres to give you the grip you need when needed. If your in ANY dount about your tyres, change them

They are bt090's bella, think i'll look for a uber soft supercorsa race scrub now, not going to spend another £80~90 on a 090 just yet. I wouldn't be that bothered except this one was near enough new. Crying or Very sad

The Dragons I've got on are brilliant. They're surprisingly good in the wet too. You could try for the cheaper Metzler versions that are the same rubber (made in the same factory).
