I went to Coventry today, for a free dyno run. My little busa clocked 165.7 BHP and 197 MPH (with PCII and a K&N filter)

This upset a nice man with a NoS busa who, with £5K of engine work, only got 161 BHP and 193 MPH.

Techy graphs attached (the higher BHP reading came on the speed run)

Rar!

Did he actually use the Nitrous Confused.

Sounds very good for a stock one.

Sadly, despite the blurb suggesting there was a free dyno at the ocford and Conventry stores, it was only at the Coventry store.
Luckily I called up before so didn't waste my time.

Hi

Wandered along, but got there fairly late (3:30 ish). Couldn't see the dyno anywhere.

All the best

Nope, you're not allowed to run Nitrous on a dyno - apparently it buggers up their rolling road! (too fast!)

Either way, unless the Nitrous ports into his cylinders had shagged his engine, it's still a reasonable run @ 193mph. He did say he'd had it mapped with the TRE on, and subsequently removed it, so it's not going to be chucking out what it could have - and the stock ECU run put out the precise 155BHP they should out of the box (although I believe he had a decent air filter, and a 4>2>1 exhaust conversion - so should have got more!)

Ah well Smile

I left at 3:15pm, and the last run was at 3:05pm - sorry!

The speed is pretty much just down to the gearing. Get the gearing right and a 125 would spin a dyno up to that (although if it had H rated tyres I don't think I would want to be near it).

All the best

not sure,
but you'd get more out of a paid one than just power,
I wanted to find out the torque but they weren't doing that.

(Phoenix recons about £25)

I've usually seen about £20 for a single run, relatively less if you want a few runs along with some playing.

You should get power, torque and air/fuel mixture for a paid one.

You can always work out torque manually simple - google for the calculation, but something around power=torque*rpm*5220 .

I don't know the RPM though
the dyno print outs are only mph vs bhp

Wind resistance, as my friend Ian pointed out, won't be affecting the dyno, but will affect you riding - and will happily crimp several mph off your top end...

Yeh I know resistence from wind road rider weight etc will reduce my top speed, which is why I can't work out the torque from the RPM on the road...

and no you didn't force me to do it

but Alex saying, lets see if it is 33bhp and you going yeah go on for a laugh you're not completely innocent Razz

theoretical speeds can be worked out using the rpms against the bikes gear ratio and final drive (or something like that)

not 100% certain of the exact method

I would expect the wind to knock a lot more than 18 mph off the top speed.

too many uncertainties to calculate ethe torque, don't know how far out m bike's speedo is or the dyno was etc...

meh It'll be one of those unknown things Confused

Agreed, But that post I made was in response to a post asking about calculating engine rpm from the information to hand I.e the speed

In so many ways.... Razz

But, you did nearly hit 33bhp, so it was a good test of the bike and it's limits - if you hit more you could have grinned: )

She's not big enough to gain that much wind resistance if she sits up Smile
