depends on your age 21+ you can do test and ride into the sunset on an NC30 in a matter of days,

that said an NC30 is bloody grp 12 (which is funny cus the SV650 is grp 10) ,

you can always evaluate the value of insurance vs test by going to online insurance quote thingies and trying out different circumstances,

but all in all I'd say take the test ASAP , they keep bolting on shit to it , like Hellkat informed us recently of a swerve test which wasn't on my test a few years back.

and by 2008 lots of regional centres (test) will be closed down for super dupa (read harder and more expensive) off road tests and on road tests = more BS to get through.

Definitely do the full test (restricted or not) if you can.

Are you old enough to do DAS (over 21)?

im only 18, so i thought just for quick easy summer riding i could do CBT and get a 125 on the cheap just to get me started then when i get a bit more money i could pay for a few lessons and afford insurance on an NC30, its easliy my favourite bike, i saw one at rufforth when dad was buyin a new bike and i fell in love with it! also heard they are great to ride if your not too tall.

No problems with starting on a 125. If you can afford it, I'd do the full test and get a cheapish NC30. Shouldn't cost much more than a rs125 and as restricted will only be a bit faster and will be easier to ride. Plus of course, you can derestrict it back to get a bit more go when you feel like it (after two years, honest officer Smile ).

yeah i thought that cos 125's aint that cheap! for a couple of hundred quid more you can get a decent NC30. having never ridden on the road before i thought i would get used to 33bhp then whip the restrictor out after that ...and beat my dad on his guzzi 750 Very Happy lol! where can i look for insurance on the internet? i really need an idea
