Your chosen style of bike will probably make the decision for you - street, sports, trails or scooter? Personally, I'd go for either trail or scooter. Given the number of gears versus top speed, I'd go automatic which pretty much means scooter.

How much peer pressure would you be under? Smile

get a dirt cheap scooter/moped if your only going to keep it 6months

go for one with a high milage, low price and make sure its MOT'd for full year cos then u can sell it on at same price not have too much cost (also the insurance will be cheaper)

RS50 insurance will be more than 300 / 400 quid (even if its for a few months!)

As you are only going to keep it for 6 months i would say get the scoot. Also, most geared bikes around £700 would be old and probably knackerd, so you would probably end up paying loads in maintanance. So buy a cheap scoot, about £500, then when you come to sell it it wont have lost much on the resale value and you could get a good 125.

Can get a decent enough dirt 50cc for £700 or under - it's just it'll be a bit older, ie a DT50 rather than a Derbi with funky alien-esque plastics or whatever.

i'm a novice, and i haven't even payed for my bike.
but from what i do know, apart from it depending on what style of bike you'd like, with that price range i'd say you would probably find it easier to come across a moped, depends how much abuse, and how many "chav" comments you could withstand!! Very Happy
