A2 Using a friends bike?

Hello!

As the title suggests, im looking to do my A2 with my friends bike, as the schools charge a FORTUNE ~£800+!

I was wondering, where can I get insured for the session(s)? If you know a company that’ll provide insurance please let me know. I have two choices of bikes to use - a 2017 MT07 and a 650 Ninja 2016.

They’re both restricted and road legal, taxed and insured all that jazz.

Try and get a quote from them as a provisional license holder for a big bike that's owner by someone else...

OMG bike schools are expensive!! Yeah we hear that a lot. but so is a plumber, an electrician in fact any skilled work comes at a price.

Guess what, A fleet of bikes, insurance for beginners with a huge public liability clause, office space, bike storage, a site to train on thats secure and authorised by the dvsa and an instructors wages all cost money.

Then take into account the instructor has trained and is continiously assessed.

but yes we are expensive. Makes me wonder why I live in my overdraft and I am not fkin rich... oh wait...

but sure, as Ste said, check out prices of temporary provisional insurance on your friends bike. Do it yourself, if you are lucky you'll get through it. if not you'll spend more and more money.

Or you could use a bike from a company with an instructor who will teach you valuable life skills, and is actually quallified to teach.

But yeah we aint cheap, but as I said, neither is a plumber.

I know what I'd charge for a day's work and I can't say bike schools look that unreasonable. With cars it's just one vehicle with the instructor in the passenger seat possibly with dual controls. No such option for motorbikes - nature of the beast - unless you think instructors would be mad enough to ride pillion with a n00b (if that was even legal.)

I did my A2 / A1 on my R1150GS.
no issue surprisingly. Did not even ask to see my restriction certificate.. what a waste of time I spent printing that off lol.

Make sure you have a main dealer restriction certificate.

We didn't and son couldn't do his MOD1. (Restriction fitted by myself).

This was earlier this year.
