cheap motorway commuter?

Hello everyone,
My YBR250 developed a fault that is probably not fixable (engine light on, would take repalcement of whole throttle body) and it will fail its MOT so I need to find a replacement. The difficulty is that there's few YBR250s around and they're likely to also be old and less reliable, like mine, and there's few others that cost as little to insure. For example the BMW G310R costs £141 from my insurer vs £66 (TPO) that I pay at the moment. The Kawasaki Z300 and Honda CB500 are quite cheap at £76, although they cost more to buy than the G310. Are there any 125s that have enough performance for short motorway rides (under 1h) which I need for my commuting? Hopefully they should be cheapest to buy and run.

What about one of the bigger scooters, one of the 250/300cc ones?

Good condition Suzuki GW250 Inazumas still crop up on ebay fairly frequently. What are they like for insurance costs?

I've went from Glasgow City centre to Edinburgh City centre and back again on my Chinese 125cc using the M8 motorway. That's a 50 minute ride each direction. I've also ridden it along the M8 from Glasgow then headed up the M80 to Stirling then up the M9 all the way to Dundee and back again (1 hour 30 minutes each way) as well on the same 125cc. As long as you commit to the fact you will be in the slow lane the entire journey and happy to sit at 55mph even behind HGVs even a cheap chinese 125cc will do it.

I used to love riding my VT125 Shadow around Edinburgh in the pissing rain when I was learning. Literally rode around the city til midnight due to my excitement of actually finding something that excited me. Then rode home shitting myself on the bypass. I actually loved that bike. I would say by far and away the best 125 money can buy (In my little head anyway) and no way will you get depreciation. I've no idea what I'm talking about but basically any bike is good.

That's a Saturday morning, it's probably just the TPS. £30 part and a few hours work.

If you're hell bent on a commuter hack because you don't want to perform a simple fix just pick up a cheap jap 600 from the late 90's/ early 2000's. They're cheap and bulletproof, ideal workhorse.
