I have a 1988 zx600c1 with an overheating problem. I have checked the fan, coolant, and have bypassed the fan thermostat to keep the fan on. The engine still overheats. Not sure what to do, its almost as if the fan is undersized. anyone have this before?

Hi

How hot is the radiator when the engine is overheating? Cold radiator with a hot engine suggests that no coolant is being pumped round (so faulty water pump, air lock, blocked radiator, etc). Even had the RS125 run hot from using too much antifreeze.

Beyond that there are things that will cause it to run hot. Lean mixture (although the cooling system would probably cope unless it was very dangerously lean). Blown head gasket will cause problems. Low water level.

All the best

Keith

But how hot is the radiator compared to the engine temp?

All the best

The entire engine is runs hot, I do not have a separate guage for each. I guess what I'm saying is the engine overheats, not just the radiator.

Hi

Manually check the temp of the radiator when the engine gets hot (carefully touch it). If the temperature gauge is high but the radiator cool / cold then little / no water flowing round the engine.

If the radiator is hot as well then something is pumping out loads of extra heat. Possibly head gasket. Possibly little / no oil. Possibly very lean mixture.

All the best

Keith
