You need lots of little tins of modelling paint, if you want red, you can use crushed beetles instead.

Just paint the panels with a roller, and use a toothbrush to fill in any bits that you've missed.

i sand down all fairings, then primer coats, then top coat and lacquer, then i leave it a couple of days to harden properly.

this might help..

https://www.info-central.org/finishing_spraycan.shtml

i know its for painting rockets but painting with cans is generally the same.. Make sure you prep well. Dont rush throught the job and dont touch the panels for a few days after laquering em else you will ruin them trying to put them back on the bike before its all hardened.

Ok, i have just sprayed my single seat cowling, which is plastic.

Sand down lightly between each coat with fine wet&dry.

I used cellulose primer, about 2 coats should do it, then 3-4 coats of the colour of your choice(cellulose again) sanding in between, dont sand the last colour coat.

Then 3 coats of cellulose gloss laquer(lightly sanding in between)

Leave for a day or 2, then your done.

Mine came out fine, but i'm a sprayer anyway, and do it in a dust free enviroment.

And use a tack cloth.

looks alrite for a spray can job. My attempts have been quite appaling to my standard. Smile. Is it me or is the paint a bit thick towards the edges? Could be just reflections/jpg compression..

Il take a pic of my dads tank when im next in the garage. He done a pretty good job aswell but its still a spray can job and its gonna chip/scratch well easily (Well my dads has and so has mine in the past). Is there anyway of getting a half decent, resistant surface, with just cans?.

Well, as said above, i'm a pro sprayer, so i done the cowling in my tea-breaks/dinnertimes at work, And in my spray booth with extraction fan in the back using my spraygun, not a spraycan.

No fat edges, just the reflection, and its dried quite hard aswell, for cellulose.

Just get some decent spraycans if you cant get someone or have it done professionally.

I also matched the paint up wrong though, its a bit too red+light compared to the rest of the bike, but might put some stickers on it to take the eye of it.

What grade of wet and dry would you suggest using? I've got some 800 here but not sure if that's too rough or not. Thinking

If you can get any smoother, then get it, but if you want, just rub the paper together which will smooth the wet&dry out!!

I actually used grade 800 on the seat cowling.
