 |
|
Last night I set off to Snetterton for today's trackday. Left work and got home by 6pm, packed up the remainder of my gear, hooked up the trailer to the car and left by 7pm. I rolled into Snetterton about three hours later to find G, Davo and Bendy already in command of a gagage. G's racing there this weekend, so obviously he had brought his entire house with him...

Davo had phoned me to see where I was... I thought it was because he was worried, but no, it's because he was waiting to do the Fast Food Run! We get to Attlebrough and find that (in true Norfolk style I'm sure) everything was shut except for the four million take aways. This meant no lager. Sainsbury's was shut. Treshers was shut and even some other random office licence was shut. It was just gone 10pm.
Anyway we sat up eating and chatting until re retired to our various "rooms" for the night (back seat of the car in my case). Up at 7:30 this morning (bright sunshine burning me through the windows!) and all looked good. The weather looked as if it was going to be kind.

We did the breifing, and they explained how the PACE system worked; bascially we would have our laps timed and then we get moved between groups, and put in a grid formation within those groups. After we looked around the pits and saw some of the kit on display (and motorhomes in the paddock) we all set ourselves to be moved down a bit... Aside from the Bemsee racers getting some practice in for this weekend's races there is also the small matter of British Superbikes visiting Snetterton next weekend. I spotted some obvious R6 Cup riders and a very expensively kitted out team in the next garage. Davo insisted they were Bemsee, but with four immaculate (sponsor splashed) bikes, two riders, a technician, god knows how many spares and more money's worth of Snap On tools than all our bikes cost combined, I suggested British Superstock. Davo disagreed. What was it your owe me again?

Anyway, out on track and sure enough, G was moved from Fast to Inters and I was shifted from Inters to Novice (together with Bendy and Davo). Must be the fastest Inters group in history!

The weather kept getting hotter (around 26C I believe), and Gazdaman and Jay123456 (or whatever the numbers on his name are!) turned up for photography and pit bitch duties!
Everything was going well for me until on the third session I had a splutter loss of power going up the start finish straight. Thinking I was running out of fuel I managed to coast it all the way round the track and back to the pits. It was low on fuel but not empty. Apparently G's old R6 did a similar thing last year and was caused by the fuel overheating. Solution? Go quicker! Yeah... no problem - what do think I've been doing up until now?! Anyway, let it cool down for a bit and it was fine for the rest of the day. Strange.

All in all a good day. The BCF Curse stayed away and no-one crashed (although Bendy threw bar ends at anyone who dared to overtake her! ). I can't say I loved the track - it's quite simple, with two technical chicane chucked into the mix, but it was fun. Roll on the next one, and good luck to G for this weekend!

Lap times are up now (cheers for the heads-up Davo). My best from each session were:
1:32.904
1:29.956
1:29.032
1:28.946
1:28.182
1:28.643
Not quite to BSB standards!
Incredible though that at least one guy in Novice was doing 1m 20s laps, which should put him right in the mix for Rookie 600s:
https://www.bemsee.co.uk/2004/events/results.php?result=club/results/rd07/result8.txt
Interestingly, just to show the large spread of abilities, in the final timed session the fastest guy (in our group) posted a 1:20.355 fastest lap, I did a 1:28.643 and the slowest guy's fastest lap was 1:42.434. Twenty two seconds a lap between fastest and slowest! |

Was a fairly fun day, losing one bar end is careless but losing two is just downright clumsy. Walked the track that night but couldn't find them.
Best time was a pathetic 1:35, considering I was doing 1:28 last time I was at Snett, that's rather disappointing. Still got a bit of work to do to get back to my old self, it seems.
The 'grid start' was vaguely entertaining, although as they were doing it row by row and I was lined up against a 125 there wasn't really much chance of me not being in front by the time we got to Riches. |
