Riding home earlier tonight, I was bored, sat at 35 odd mph along the road leading up to mine, and decided to take my feet off. So off they come, and I hold them out to each side, time to weave about to see what steering difference it makes if any.
Lo and behold, the ped swoops from side to side with such ease and speed I have not witnessed before.

Can anyone tell me why?

You've moved the centre of gravity so the bike is more stable at higher lean angles.

In exactly the same way as holding a big long pole helps a tightrope walker keep their balance.

i was following a pizza delivery boy on a ped the other day, he was cornering like this hanging the inside leg way out and the speed and lean he chucked the ped through a corner was preety impressive. il stick to my sportsbike for that sort of thing i think!
